G. B. Blackrock

G. B. Blackrock is the name of two fictional characters in the various Transformers universes.

G. B. Blackrock is a millionaire who owns several companies, facilities and arenas, the most notable being a petroleum company that manufactures and distributes fuel to cars. He is initially portrayed as a playboy, racing cars and sunbathing on boats in between business deals.

Marvel Comics

Following an attack by the current Decepticon commander, Shockwave, at one of his seabound oil refineries, one of Blackrock's workers, Josie Beller, was crippled. Feeling responsible for her neurological injuries, Blackrock swore revenge on the Transformers by developing his own weapon. Beller, whilst a patient at the Blackrock Chronic Care Institute, developed a skin-tight costume of metal and circuitry to restore the use of her nervous system. It enabled her to move, walk, even fly and release destructive electrical bolts. Assuming the name Circuit Breaker, Beller asked Blackrock when they were to start "going after the robots". Blackrock swore to do everything to stop them himself, leading to Beller leaving.

The following day, at the Blackrock Motor Speedway, during a huge media event organised by Blackrock to show off his new anti-robot weapon, he is intercepted by the Autobot Jazz in car mode. Explaining in detail the difference between Autobots and Decepticons, Jazz struck a deal with Blackrock to provide fuel sources for them, in exchange for them protecting his facilities. Agreeing, and returning to the unveiling of his weapon, he finds the weapon inoperative, courtesy of Circuit Breaker. The Decepticons Starscream and Frenzy attack the Speedway; as Jazz tries to confront them, Circuit Breaker, seeing all Transformers as evil robots, attacks Jazz, allowing Starscream to attack Jazz unimpeded. His fellow Autobot, Wheeljack is similarly disabled by Circuit Breaker. Following the Decepticons' retreat from the scene, Blackrock persuades his former employee to leave without further harm to the Autobots.

This begins the long association and allegiance of G.B. Blackrock with the Autobots. He often works with Bumblebee, whom he allows to refuel for free at any of his gas stations.

A story called The Gift in issue 93 of the Marvel U.K. comics explored Jetfire's problems fitting in with the other Autobots. Jetfire accompanied Jazz to a Blackrock fuel plant to oversee the creation of more fuel for the Autobots. The plant was attacked by Decepticons Thrust and Bombshell. Although Jetfire was able to put out a fire at the plant before it exploded, he blamed himself for being slow to react.

In the latter part of the series, Blackrock founded a team of human superheroes called the Neo-Knights. Blackrock himself does not have super powers, he simply acts as the team's manager.

G. B. Blackrock and the Neo-Knights were accidentally transported to Cybertron along with the Transformers when Primus sought to unite all his children against the dark god Unicron. Upon first contact with Unicron, Circuit Breaker fainted because of his sheer size and complexity, and Dynamo was unable to fight because Cybertron's nature was too unlike Earth. However, Rapture did manage to briefly convince Unicron that he had succeeded in destroying the universe.

R.J. Blackrock is the owner and CEO of Blackrock Petroleum and Energy Concern. Though he has a habit of dressing casually, he's all business, and that business is making money. The arrival of a bunch of giant robots from space is just another opportunity for him to exploit.

Fun Publicatioms

In Transhuman, Blackrock was so impressed by Sephie Beller's thesis on Cybertronian actuator mechanisms that he personally hired her to work in his R&D department. Shortly before a golfing match with Senator Shore, he called Sephie to his office to ask her to invite her Decepticon friends to the unveiling of his company's new Mega-Rig. During the unveiling, Blackrock's speech was interrupted by a group of Autobots led by Rodimus Prime. Blackrock and the other humans present headed for Blackrock's yacht, but Beller alerted them to the danger posed by Seaspray, and they instead took shelter within the rig.

Desiring the technology of the newcomers, Blackrock put a new plan into motion. He first made contact with Rodimus Prime at Arizona Bay, offering the Autobots unlimited fuel in exchange for technology and protection. Rodimus's interest was piqued. Blackrock arranged to meet them at an old pipe station near the bay. Next Blackrock contacted Beller to tell her that the Autobots were extorting oil from her, and to let the Decepticons know.

When both the Autobots and Decepticons turned up at the arranged place, Blackrock himself made an appearance, piloting the end result of Project Shieldbreaker: the Centurion armored mech. As the Decepticons had already been securely bound, Blackrock began fighting the Autobots. The Decepticons initially thought that he was there to help them, when Soundwave got free, Blackrock blasted him, explaining that he was after their Cybertronian technology. While the Autobots retreated, Beller attacked Blackrock, destabilizing the Centurion's hydrogen cells. Blackrock ejected the mech's control pod, however Beller carried the rest of the mech up into the air so its detonation wouldn't harm her friends, and the resulting explosion knocked the control pod out of the air. After it landed, he was surrounded by angry Decepticons with guns, but he pointed out that by human law he'd done nothing wrong, and it was the Decepticons who'd trespassed on his land and destroyed his equipment. Also, he informed Beller she was fired.
