Honolulu University of the Arts, Sciences, and Humanities, or just Honolulu University, is an unaccredited institution of nontraditional higher education (distance learning).

It was originally founded by Warren Walker as Golden State University in California, United States, and later moved to Hawaii, where it was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in February 1987.^[1] It also has several offices in Asia. Until 2005 it was a full institutional member of the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), which only admits institutions in good standing but is not an accreditation body^[2]. In its advertising Honolulu University claims accreditation by "Akademie für Internationale Kultur- und Wissenschaftsförderung", which is not a generally recognized accrediting body in Europe and apparently also is defunct. The school made the press because of lawsuits resulting from irregularities related to school agents in asia who failed to properly disclose the unaccredited status of the school to prospective students. The school lost in court and the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection is processing requests for tuition refunds. Honolulu University in turn sued their Singaporean agent, who in the meantime had died.^[3]

Because Honolulu University is not accredited by any recognized accreditation body, its degrees may not be acceptable to employers or other educational institutions, and the use of its degree titles may be restricted or illegal in some jurisdictions.

Honolulu University of the Arts, Sciences and Humanities is not to be confused with the University of Honolulu, an illegitimate entity not based in Hawaii, or another now defunct entity that called itself "Honolulu University" and apparently is based in China. Another University bearing "Honolulu" in its name is the fully accredited Chaminade University of Honolulu, which is a major campus university in Honolulu.
