Hillgrove High School was established in 2006 in the Cobb County School District in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. Christian Suttle is the current principal of the school, having taken over in the fall of 2013. Hillgrove currently has over 2,000 students in grades 912. It is the fifteenth public high school built in the Cobb County public school district.[2]

The school is located at 4165 Luther Ward Road, Powder Springs, Georgia 30127.

History

Hillgrove High School was built on 98 acres (400,000 m2). The land was donated by Harry Hill and Harriet Hargrove Hill to Young Harris College and then sold to the Cobb County Board of education, by the university. The Hills purchased the land in 1952 to raise cattle and Tennessee Walking Horses. The Hills give college scholarships to Hillgrove students who excel at their studies.

Demographics

The demographic breakdown of the 2,177 students enrolled in 2013-2014 was:

  • Male - 50.8%
  • Female - 49.2%
  • Native American/Alaskan - >0.1%
  • Asian/Pacific Islanders - 2.2%
  • Black - 29.8%
  • Hispanic - 6.3%
  • White - 59.2%
  • Multiracial - 2.5%

20.7% of the students were eligible for free or reduced lunch.[1]

Athletics

A small council of students from neighboring Cobb County schools met to choose Hillgrove's mascot, the hawk. This was chosen because many indigenous hawks lived around the property Hillgrove was built on. The school colors are crimson and silver. [2] The following sports are offered:

  • Golf
  • Lacrosse
  • Baseball/softball
