Hurricane Erin (1989) was a category 2 hurricane that did not affect land. Erin was the fifth named storm and third hurricane in the 1989 Atlantic Hurricane season. It had winds of 105 mph and a minimum pressure of 968 mbar.

Meteorological History

On August 16, a well organized tropical wave moved off the coast of Africa based on satellite images. The next day it weakened, but on August 18, it regained it's strength and later on August 18 was upgraded to Tropical Depression Five. On August 19, it was upgraded to Tropical Storm Erin. By August 22, Erin reached hurricane status. Erin strengthened to a category 2 hurricane on August 23 and later reached peak intensity with winds of 105 mph and a minimum pressure of 968 mbar. Early on August 24, Erin weakened back to a category 1 hurricane and weakened to a tropical storm on August 25. Erin dissipated on August 27.
