Jeff Preiss

Jeff Preiss is an American filmmaker, cinematographer, director and producer. He is also a 1979 graduate of the Bard College film program.[1] Some of his most notable works are Let's Get Lost (1988) and Broken Noses (1987).[2] He currently resides in New York and is a former board member at The Collective For Living Cinema.[3]

In 1987 He began working with Bruce Weber, the photographer, as Director of Photography on a series of short films and features. This included the documentary features Broken Noses[2] and Let's Get Lost,[4] the latter, on the jazz legend Chet Baker, winning the Venice Film Festival Critics Award [5] and an Academy Award nomination for best documentary.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page).

Mr. Preiss collaborated for three years with Weber, then expanded his career to include directing television commercials and music videos (Including music video clips for Iggy Pop, Malcolm McLaren, REM, B52s, Mariah Carey[6] and commercials for Nike,[7] L.L. Bean,[8] Monster.com,[9] among others)

In May 2005, Mr. Preiss co-founded Orchard,[10] a co-operative experimental exhibition space, where he collaborated on a series of films with Andrea Fraser, Nicolás Guagnini, Christian Philipp Müller, Josiah McElheny, Moyra Davey and Anthony McCall. Works from this series have joined collections,[11] including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Mardid and the Museum of Modern Art, NY.

Mr. Preiss later became a founding partner of Epoch Media Group,[12] where he executive produced the motion picture "Gigantic".[13] He is now a board member at Light Industry,[14] "a venue for film and electronic art in Brooklyn, New York.

He is married to R.H. Quaytman, the painter, and they live in New York with their son, Isaac.
