Kanhan has seen a lot of glory in the past and has been one of the richest Panchayats in the region - to boast it had thriving industry in the form of Khandelwal Group, Brooke Bond, Indian Hume Pipe, Paper mills and WCL. Today other than WCL most of the other industries are closed. One other reason for Kanhan to prosper was the fact that it is on the popular National Highway 7.

Kanhan has a few really old and good schools like BKCP School, Vikas High school and others. In terms of Medical facility there is the WCL Hospital and Dr Kediyal Jiwan Chakra Nursing Home
