La Quinta Charter Middle School (LQMS) is a middle school (grades 6 to 8) in La Quinta, California in the Desert Sands Unified School District. The school first opened in the Fall of 1988 in a temporary site North of the current campus. Its present site finished construction in the summer of 1990, in time for its opening in the Fall of 1990. It was named a California Distinguished School in 1994.
According to the official web site statement, La Quinta Middle School is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP)* school, LQMS practices the tenets of the IB philosophy and pedagogy, which is evident in the teachers' instruction.[citation needed]
Its feeder schools are John Adams, Harry Truman and Benjamin Franklin Elementary Schools within a mile from LQMS, all schools are in one of California's fastest growing cities.
