Trauma Center is a series of simulation/visual novel games in which players assume the role of a surgeon in a fictional hospital setting to strive to save their patients from a pathological condition such as disease or injury. The series includes Trauma Center: Under the Knife (2005, DS) Trauma Center: Second Opinion (2006, Wii), Trauma Center: New Blood (2007, Wii), Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 (2008, DS) and Trauma Team (2010, Wii).

Under The Knife 1 and 2/Second Opinion[edit]

Derek Stiles[edit]

  • Age: 26 (29 in Under the Knife 2 and 36 in New Blood)
  • Born: 1992
  • Nationality: American

Derek Stiles is the main character and a surgeon at Hope Hospital and later, Caduceus. He is just beginning to realize his potential. Derek did not do his job seriously until Angie came along. Derek is a "descendant" of the Greek god of medicine, Asclepius, and is gifted with extreme concentration, an ability referred to as the "Healing Touch." In the first two games of the series, Derek fights against the deadly G.U.I.L.T. strain of viruses. He desires to help people because his father died of an illness when he was young (And later, by remembering a doctor telling him that he can't operate on his father). In Trauma Center: Second Opinion, he becomes Dr. Weaver's patient after being infected by Kyriaki and Paraskevi during an operation on a patient.

In Trauma Center: New Blood, Derek and Angie make a brief appearance in one of the later cut-scenes in the game, notably as representative of Caduceus Japan (the end of Under the Knife 2 suggests his transfer), and assist Markus Vaughn and Valerie Blaylock in the last Challenge operation of the game, in which the player must treat simulated patients that are infected with not only Stigma, but GUILT as well.

In Trauma Team, Derek makes a cameo diagnosing Naomi Kimishima's incurable disease and operating on her to prevent most of its negative effects. He later is seen in the end of the game instructing CR-S01 on the operation to destroy the mutated Rosalia virus within Naomi's heart. Voiced by: Takayuki Kondo (Japanese), Yuri Lowenthal (English)

Angie Thompson[edit]

  • Age: 21 (24 in Under the Knife 2 and 31 in New Blood)
  • Born: 1997
  • Nationality: American

Angie Thompson is a young nurse that works as Derek's assistant. She is part German and was raised by a well-educated family, receiving an International Nursing License at an early age. She may seem a bit critical at times, but she is truly trying to help Dr. Stiles work to his full potential. Angie is also a quick thinker when it comes to medical situations. She usually can keep a grip on things, but occasionally gets caught up in the moment and loses her temper every now and then. Despite not being impressed with him early in the first game, she has been shown to harbor romantic feelings for Derek Stiles, with a relationship strongly implied at the end of Under the Knife 2. Angie also knows Aikido as a form of self-defense. She thinks ahead, as seen by when she hid some surgical tools when she and Derek were captured by Delphi allowing them to escape, in Under the Knife 2. She also has a bad habit of eavesdropping on others. Voiced by Ayako Kawasumi (Japanese), Wendee Lee (English).

Naomi Kimishima/Nozomi Weaver[edit]

  • Age: 29 (31 in Trauma Team)
  • Born: 1989
  • Nationality: Japanese

Nozomi is introduced during the 'Z' episodes of Trauma Center: Second Opinion. Originally a doctor in Japan, her ability to use the Healing Touch made her known as the Devil Doctor because of its supernatural effect. She has the initials of NW like Derek has DS. NW is probably referring to Nintendo Wii, the only playable console for Trauma Center: Second Opinion. She lost her license in Japan before Delphi gave her a new name and had her work to help those they infected with GUILT that they wanted to use for further tests. She is playable in the 5 'Z' episodes, and the 4 operations during Chapter 6 and the X episodes. Her healing touch differs from Derek's, allowing her to raise a patients' vitals by receiving "Cool", "Good", or "OK" ranks in her actions, although in the 7th X mission against Savato, where using the Healing Touch to stop time completely is required to complete the operation, she discovers that she can use it the same way as Derek. After Delphi is found and eliminated, she offers samples of immature GUILT viruses to work for Caduceus Europe in exchange for her freedom. Eventually, her real name in the North American version is revealed to be Naomi Kimishima.

In Trauma Team Naomi retires from the surgical field when Derek diagnosed her with an incurable disease some time in between Second Opinion and Trauma Team. At the time of her diagnosis, Naomi is given 6 months to a year to live. She keeps her past to herself not wanting to relive some of those memories. She now works at the Cumberland Institute of Forensic Medicine as a Forensics investigator for the FBI using her sharp mind that she used in surgeries into her investigations in hope of giving her last days some meaning. During her investigations, she often hears the voices of the dead in their last moments, giving her the nickname "The Corpse Whisperer". When looking for a cure for the Rosalia virus, she becomes infected with the virus itself, which mutated with Naomi's genetic disease. When CR-S01 eliminated the mutated Rosalia virus (dubbed "Twisted Rosalia" in game), the Rosalia Virus took the fatal disease along with it, allowing her to live a full life with her newly adopted daughter Alyssa. Voiced by: Akeno Watanabe (Japanese), Kirsten Potter (English)

New Blood[edit]

Markus Vaughn[edit]

  • Age: 34
  • Born: 11 July 1994 in California
  • Nationality: American

Originally a doctor at Concordia Medical Institute, his research with Lloyd Wilkens forced him to be transferred to the Montgomery Memorial hospital at Alaska with his colleague Valerie Blaylock. When they were kidnapped by Kidman's group along with Elena Salazar, he revealed to be responsible for the birth of Stigma as part of an experiment with a mystery pathogen and synthetic blood, which he wished to destroy and forget but was further researched by professor Lloyd Wilkens. He has the same Healing Touch as Derek Stiles; superhuman concentration which makes it seem like he is temporarily slowing time down. Although sometimes stubborn and cynical, he always concentrates on saving the patient, even in tense situations. Along the storyline, he aptly expresses his desire to eradicate Stigma.

Valerie Blaylock[edit]

  • Age: 28
  • Born: 2 October 2000 in North Carolina
  • Nationality: American

Dr. Blaylock is eager to learn the Healing Touch from her colleague Dr. Vaughn, whom she followed to Montgomery Memorial. She's passionate about her work and her career, and will speak her mind when necessary. Her Healing Touch differs from Dr. Vaughn as it is able to stop vitals from falling while it's active. However, this prevents vitals from rising too. Also, as soon as Dr. Blaylock's Healing Touch ends, vitals will automatically rise.

Elena Salazar[edit]

  • Age: 20
  • Born: 2008 in California
  • Nationality: American

A former patient of Dr. Vaughn, who had an immunity suppressant pump implanted in her at the age of 13. She studied to become a nurse so that she too, could help people. Although she is still young, she is hard-working and not afraid of a challenge.

Trauma Team[edit]

Naomi Kimishima returns from Trauma Center: Second Opinion in this game as the Forensics expert. See above for details.

  • Nationality: Possibly German

A prisoner sentenced to 250 years in prison, seemingly for orchestrating "The Cumberland Incident", a biological terrorism attack that took place at Cumberland College 8 years ago that killed many. Due to the incident, he lost his memories but retained his medical and surgical prowess. While he lost his memories on the incident, he feels responsible for the deaths that occurred due to his possible involvement. Seeing his honest grief, the government decides to give him a second chance by allowing him to work off his sentence by perform complex operations at Resurgam First Care.

It is later discovered that CR-S01 is the adopted son of Albert Sartre, a man who developed the Rosalia virus using the blood of his adopted daughter, Rosalia Rosellini, and the true culprit behind the Cumberland Incident. His biological parents despised him and when they died, Sartre adopted CR-S01 and taught him medicine and helped with his experiments. Because of this, he has expert knowledge on the Rosalia virus successfully operating on several patients with the virus and instructing Maria and Tomoe on how to deal with the virus, even operating on Naomi when the virus mutated. He holds no grudge against Sartre for the incident being the one who taught him his medicine. After the pandemic, CR-S01 is sent back to prison, but is allowed to continue to save lives and work off the rest of his sentence.

Unlike other main surgeons in the Trauma Center series, CR-S01 does not have the Healing Touch. His real name was never revealed in any part of the game. However, a Japanese walk-through guide reveals his real name as Erhard Muller. Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Nolan North (English)

Tomoe Tachibana[edit]

  • Nationality: Japanese

Tomoe was raised to be the next heir in the wealthy Tachibana clan. Her wealthy lifestyle made her feel empty so she set out to learn medicine in an attempt to become independent. However, her desire to improve herself caused a rift between her and her family. She now resides in America working in Resurgam First Care specializing in Endoscopic Surgery. Tomoe is very strict in following the "path of honor" and thus does everything with the utmost care and to the best of her ability. She frequently demonstrates her clan's abilities being able to move in the blink of an eye and can be seen training with several weapons. Tomoe is often the voice of reason for some of the other characters sharing her views on honor. Voiced by: Shizuka Itoh (Japanese), Stephanie Sheh (English)

His passion for saving others has left him wanting to return to action, so he dons a costume and becomes a crime fighter named Captain Eagle during his off time; because of this, he is occasionally late to operation briefings. However, he starts questioning his motives after several incidents but continues to believe in humanity and the lives of those he is saving. Voiced by: Masashi Sugawara (Japanese), Dave Mitchell (English)

Maria Torres[edit]

  • Nationality: Mexican

A young girl whose quick thinking and ability to act under pressure makes her perfect for her line of work as a First Response Paramedic in Resurgam First Care. However, her lack of patience and temper has distanced her from her colleagues who believe she is nothing more than impulsive and reckless. Maria believes that she is the best and thus doesn't like to work with others thinking they will just slow her down. As an orphan, she decided to become a Paramedic after saving a girl named Rosalia after causing a fire back in her orphanage. Following suit, she studied to become the quick and skillful doctor that she is now hoping to become a hero in the process. During her story, she frequently saw a female ghost warning her of future events; the ghost was later revealed to be Rosalia. Voiced by: Hitomi Nabatame (Japanese), Amanda Winn-Lee (English)

Gabriel Cunningham[edit]

  • Nationality: British

A genius Diagnostician who has become one of the finest minds in the Resurgam First Care. But his genius mind has given him an insight on the foolishness of humanity. This has caused him to become sarcastic and unmotivated causing a huge rift between him and his family and has lost the passion he once had to save lives. After given a special computer named RONI, he begins to reacquire the passion he once had. Gabriel rarely saw his son, Joshua, thus Joshua couldn't recognize him during Gabriel's diagnosis. Realizing how much of a worthless father he is to Joshua, he participates in Joshua's operation with CR-S01 after diagnosing him with Wermer's Syndrome (Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1). Shortly after this, he divorces his wife, Lisa, and attempts to start over. Gabriel appears to be well acquainted with Naomi Kimishima and Derek Stiles and consults with them on several mysterious diseases. Voiced by: Keiji Fujiwara (Japanese), Travis Willingham (English)

  • Age: 121

Born Erich von Raitenau in Austria in 1897, he was the head of the Delphi organization. He has been sustaining his life deep within the Delphi Headquarters situated on a boat in the Atlantic Ocean, and has been the main culprit in helping to produce the GUILT outbreaks. He believes that humans deserve the "blessing" of disease, citing a strong belief in a "survival of the fittest" regime that will prevent overpopulation. After he is captured by Caduceus in Trauma Center: Second Opinion, it is revealed that Caduceus Europe preserved his body to create new treatments. After a severe GUILT outbreak, however, his body is finally destroyed, but not before Dr. Stiles and Dr. Kimishima being assigned to perform very dangerous surgeries on Adam in order to eradicate all of the GUILT strains inside his body. None of these reports were ever made public.

Professor Kenneth Blackwell

  • Age: 46
  • Born: 1972

The father of Angie who left his family when Angie was only 8 years old. After discovering that Delphi wanted to use his own daughter in their GUILT experiments, he made a deal to join them in exchange for his family's safety. He was the creator of the seventh and final GUILT, Savato, and ends up infected with it. After being cured by Dr. Stiles, Kenneth gives his full cooperation to Caduceus in return for saving his life. He develops a serious heart condition (caused by Post GUILT Syndrome) in Under the Knife 2 and is operated on again by Derek, and later is released from prison in order to go undercover and investigate a large medical organization.

Ludwig Milan

  • Age: 37
  • Born: 1981

A Delphi agent found at the medical facility where Professor Blackwell was conducting his research, he was the first victim of the immature form of Savato, which was in a developing stage at the time being. After being saved by Derek, he helped create the serum that would lead to Savato's destruction after he died.

Heinrich von Raitenau
The grandson of Adam, Heinrich works to revive Delphi in the period between Second Opinion and Under the Knife 2. He once again causes a series of GUILT outbreaks and kidnaps both Derek Stiles and Angie Thompson before Delphi's new base is raided. Unlike Adam, he is shown to have some doubts about the Delphi philosophy after a failed GUILT breakout, but such doubts were quickly dismissed. He, along with his children Karl and Christine, harbors a GUILT implied to be beneficial much like Bliss, but which mutate to dangerous forms of Tetarti, Kyriaki, and Pempti once they are injected with an experimental antibiotic. He is operated on by Dr. Stiles and remains in prison for the rest of the game. Like Adam in the original Under the Knife, he reappears in the X missions to taunt Derek while he performs the surgeries.

The Hands of Asclepius[edit]

Patrick Mercer

  • Age: 52
  • Born: 1969-2021

Heather Ross' stepfather and chief of the Hands of Asclepius (HOA) program created to provide cutting edge training for doctors worldwide, but in secret he was researching GUILT in hopes to bring back his wife, Tracy from coma. Heather describes him as extremely selfish, saying that every good deed he does is only for his own benefit. While Patrick is willing to risk anything and everything (including the lives of thousands) just to bring his wife back out of coma, Heather has come to accept her mother's condition and will do anything to keep her condition stable, an ideology that puts her at constant odds with her stepfather. His research was the origin of the four Neo-GUILT strains and when his plans are foiled, he is surrounded and killed while resisting arrest.

Reina Mayuzumi

  • Age: 35
  • Born: 1986

President of the Acropolis Pharmaceuticals, she tried to convince Derek to leave Caduceus and join her company, but he ends up rejecting her proposal. However, she convinced him to let her monitor one of his surgeries and used the data in the HOA program to create doctors with the healing touch power. In her obsession with eternal beauty, she became a host for the Neo-GUILT Aletheia which helped contain her aging process, but when Mercer injected with a special serum, Aletheia became out of control and started to attack her body, quickening her aging. She is saved by Derek and Angie, but her fate afterwards remain unknown. She, however, returns to try to convince Derek of GUILT's great potential during the X operation on Alethiea.

Master Vakhushti
Originally Ray Kerensky, born in Caucasus he went to Russia and then America in order to study medicine, where he met Cynthia Kazakov and became her boyfriend. After many years, he successfully became a surgeon and returned to his homeland. While aiding refugees, the army tried to assassinate him. He considered this betrayal and started going insane, believing he was the descendant of an ancient legendary family, sole survivors of a great flood. In his strive for power, he received Stigma from Professor Wilkens and became obsessed with it, eventually developing the Cardia strain and using it to treat his own malignant diencephalic sclerosis. This, however, came with a side effect of delirium, inducing him to take the identity of a mad cultist who believes humanity's true and only purpose is chaos. After a while, he installed a bomb chip inside Cynthia, who was trying to talk him out of it, because he no longer held interest in her. He promotes various Stigma developings and sabotages all the culurium-based medical products using his connections to the Columba & Cornix company so that anyone who uses them will become infected with Stigma. The player must operate on him to face Cardia, the game's final boss. He died after Dr. Vaughn and Dr. Blaylock operated on him.

  • Age: 37
  • Born: 1991-2028

Born into the Deveraux mafia family, he grew to become a doctor and then was recruited for the army to fight in an undocumented war. Along this process, he became a medical terrorist who kidnapped Professor Wilkens and later Markus, Valerie and Elena as part of his plot to market Stigma as a biological weapon for financial gain. After the surgeons escape, he and Leland go to Culuruma and aid the guerrilla leader Ramsey Ramirez in their rebellion against the government in hopes of obtaining the mining rights to the Culurium mines (said material is crucial in the creation of Stigma). After the raid on Wanadeo Base, he was ultimately killed.

  • Age: Mid-30s

A medical terrorist and the main agent of Kidman's group. Not much is known about him. He is the one constantly checking on the kidnapped Markus and Valerie and assigning them operations. He is saved and captured after the Wanadeo Base raid in Culuruma. His face is never shown, although he bears physical resemblance to Hans Nilsen, the director of Humani.

Jean-Paul Massey

  • Age: Early to mid-30s

A low agent for Kidman's group, he first appears as a Hobo asking for drugs outside Concordia Medical Institute. He later encounters and kidnaps the surgeon team posing as a masked mercenary. Later, he "betrays" Kidman by trying to level the financial gain from Stigma, resulting in Leland shooting him and the surgeons having to save him.

Trauma Team[edit]

Albert Sartre

  • Age: 50s

A medical professor of virology and the foster father of CR-S01 and Rosalia Rosellini. He was working on a way to eliminate diseases when he saw that Rosalia was a host to a unique disease. Using that blood he created the Rosalia virus and studied its effects so that it can be used safely to cure other viruses. However, he caused an outbreak at Cumberland College and many were killed. He injected CR-S01 with a medicine erasing his memories and left him to take the blame. He traveled to Mexico with Rosalia to continue his research. However, he discovered that the virus could only cause destruction. After contracting the virus itself, slowly becoming mentally unstable, he shot and killed Rosalia to prevent the disease from spreading. Her blood absorbed into the flowers and the monarch butterflies that fed off those flowers transferred the virus in their scales during their migration, ironically and indirectly causing the pandemic near the end of the game. Two years before the pandemic, he died from viral hemorrhagic fever, a primary effect caused by the virus itself.

He helped teach CR-S01 medicine and became his professor when he was admitted into Cumberland College. He regrets leaving his stepson out to be arrested and, in his final words, asks him for forgiveness.

Sandra Lieberman / The Raging Bomber

Sandra Lieberman (prior to the "Patient Zero" division) was the main antagonist of the Forensics story in Trauma Team. Dubbed "The Raging Bomber", she would send out audio-voiced threats to the public warning of a subject's death; her investigation started out with the murder of a third well-known celebrity, though in reality, the voice-clips she was sending out were revealed to be from Stephen Eldred, a college student who was being bribed from Lieberman and was then killed to prevent blackmail. She caused the 8-year old Alyssa's near-death experience, and when apprehended in a hostage situation at a mall, she was revealed to have been gone truly insane and was infected with the Rosalia Virus.

  • Age: 39
  • Born: 1979
  • Nationality: American

The senior surgical assistant for Hope Hospital. She is a nurse who helped Derek learn the basics of surgery. She moved away from Hope Hospital, where Angie took her place. Mary is seen later in the game, wondering if Dr. Stiles is alright after seeing footage of his operations on tape. She reappears in Under the Knife 2, where she takes on the role of assistant and mentor to Derek once again when he is transferred to Hope Hospital after losing the Healing Touch.

Greg Kasal

  • Age: 35
  • Born: 1983
  • Nationality: American

The senior surgeon at Hope Hospital. He is infected with the Tetarti (Τετάρτη) strain of G.U.I.L.T. later in the game and tells Dr. Stiles to operate on him as his final test in becoming a true surgeon. He is the older twin brother of Sidney Kasal. He marries Cybil Myers between Second Opinion and Under the Knife 2 and has a daughter named Kari.

Robert Hoffman

  • Age: 62
  • Born: 1956
  • Nationality: American

Dr. Hoffman was a surgeon who stopped practicing in his 40s after a problem, which is never fully explained in the games (though it hints that he failed a major operation using the Healing Touch), where it is referred to as "the accident". He's now the director of Hope Hospital. He is also gifted with the Healing Touch but seems reluctant to talk about it. After the death of Richard Anderson he becomes the head director of Caduceus USA. Later in the game, after an outbreak of GUILT, he returns to surgery and uses his Healing Touch, which is described as being able to make his surgery amazingly quick. This implies he holds the same Healing Touch as Derek. In the last mission of Trauma Center: Second Opinion, he is operated on by Derek and Naomi after being infected by a stronger Savato strain. During Under the Knife 2, Dr. Hoffman continues his work as the head director of Caduceus USA. He sends Derek back to Hope Hospital when Derek loses his Healing Touch realizing that Derek may be going though the same thing he went through.

Caduceus USA - 2018[edit]

Sidney Kasal

  • Age: 35
  • Born: 1983
  • Nationality: American

Sidney is Greg Kasal's younger twin brother and director of Caduceus USA. He has dedicated his life to the study of clinical medicine after his wife died of illness. He's very taciturn, showing very little emotion unless those close to him are at risk of dying from illness or otherwise.

She was the only person in the assembly when the bomb was discovered who helped Derek to disarm it (knowing how to aid him due to previously dating a man on the bomb squad), proving to be headstrong even in life-threatening situations. In Trauma Center: Second Opinion, she reveals that she learned a bit about disarming bombs through an interesting conversation during her lunch break. She is the first character to be infected with the Paraskevi (Παρασκευή) strain of GUILT later in the game while chasing after a Delphi agent, who is later revealed to be Professor Blackwell and is operated on by Dr. Stiles. She marries Greg Kasal between Second Opinion and Under the Knife 2 and moves to Hope Hospital, as well as have a daughter name Kari. In Under the Knife she is voiced by Wendee Lee.

Victor Niguel

  • Age: 26
  • Born: 1992
  • Nationality: American

Head of research and development. Victor focuses mainly on his work and its uses. He is considered a recluse and can't stand the thought of "idiots" being near him. Dr. Kasal suggests that he should leave the lab more often, as he was the last to meet Derek upon the latter's arrival at Caduceus. He is extremely narcissistic, refusing to admit defeat or mistakes, as shown when he fought the Pempti strain of GUILT. Victor often curses while assisting in operations. In Trauma Center: Second Opinion, with the help of Dr. Stiles, he created the cure for the Tetarti (Τετάρτη) and Pempti (Πέμπτη) strains of GUILT, and helps him defeat Paraskevi. Because his thought patterns tend to focus on finding the quickest solution first, he lacks the skill to complete puzzles, which seems to annoy him. In Under The Knife he is voiced by Spike Spencer.

Tyler Chase

  • Age: 26
  • Born: 1992
  • Nationality: American

A former schoolmate of Derek's. He tries to keep everyone in a good mood. He was previously known as the 'Death Doctor' before Derek talked him out of practicing euthanasia. His sister, Amy, has a rare disease also caused by GUILT. In Under the Knife 2, he mentions that the students he teaches call him 'The Demon' because he's merciless and goes really hard on them in spite of his laid-back attitude toward his own work. Derek notes that, despite what Tyler's personality suggests, he was among the top 5 in their class at medical school and is very gifted at writing detailed research papers.

Leslie Sears

  • Age: 26
  • Born: 1992
  • Nationality: American

One of the many nurses on staff at Caduceus. She looks after Tyler's sister, Amy. She continues to be Tyler's assistant during Under the Knife 2. She hardly hesitates to poke fun at others for lighthearted amusement, such as referring to Dr. Hoffman as "grandpa" when baby Kari is around, making her similar to Tyler in some ways.

Richard Anderson

  • Age: c. 60
  • Born: 1958-2018
  • Nationality: American

The head director of Caduceus USA and Secretary of Health. He was an astounding politician but decided to go into medicine because of his love for it. • Born: 2000
  • Nationality: American

A researcher who works for Humani, a large pharmaceutical company. She is Valerie's old friend and was operated on by Dr. Vaughn and Dr. Blaylock after she told them that Vakhushti installed a remote control bomb chip under the heart pump inside her heart and left her. Cynthia was later incarcerated for her involvement with Vakhushti.

Robert Cromwell

  • Age: 38
  • Born: 1990

During his captivity, a personality control electric unit was implanted in his brain (The surgeon responsible for this is never directly mentioned, though it is strongly hinted that it was Vakhushti) which caused him to believe he was the "director", third in command at Parnassus. He was recaptured during the raid at the Kidman family hideout, and it was up to Vaughn and Blaylock to deactivate this device in an extremely delicate operation. After this, he makes his last appearance, his memory warping back to when he was saved from Cheir at Concordia. He then destroys what's left of his Stigma research material.

Luc Rousseau

  • Age: Mid-40s

The chief surgeon at Concordia Medical Institute, he has the tendency to hog the most complicated or significant operations in order to receive more credit for them. When he witnesses the functionality of Stigma, he attempts to start an independent research of his own, but Wilkens stops him. When Wilkens' office is set on fire during his kidnapping, Rousseau gets burned and Dr. Vaughn and Dr. Blaylock have to save him.

Afterwards, he brought CR-S01 out of prison to remove the ailment. Gabriel later went to Tillman, when a patient of his suffered a strange disease he wasn't entirely sure on, to have CR-S01 transferred to Resurgam. Secretary Tillman later brought Gabriel to a quarantined Army site, to diagnose a patient during the outbreak of Rosalia. When the Army contained the location, he helped Gabriel escape so that he can save the people from the pandemic.

Rosalia Rosellini
Rosalia is the adopted daughter of Albert Sartre, the stepsister of CR-S01 and close friend to Maria Torres. She is also the natural host of the Rosalia virus, thus was immune to its effects. Before being adopted, she lived in the same orphanage as Maria, who saved her from a fire; this incident was the main reason Maria became a paramedic. After being adopted by Sartre, he used her blood to develop the Rosalia virus in hopes to use it as the cure-all for other diseases. However, when the virus became too aggressive, Sartre killed Rosalia, ostensibly to prevent the virus from spreading. Instead, the virus spread into the flowers via her blood. Monarch butterflies acted as a vector for the disease. Her ghost frequently appears to Maria to warn her of the incoming pandemic by mouthing "Beginning..."; this was confirmed by Naomi as Rosalia's last words. Ironically, her virus would actually go on to eliminate Naomi's terminal, otherwise incurable, illness.
