These are reservoirs and dams in Germany.

The German word for dam is Talsperre (literally: valley barrier); but it is often used to mean the associated reservoir as well[1]. The reservoirs are often separately given names ending in -see, -teich or -speiche which are the German words for "lake", "pond" and "reservoir", but in this case all may be translated as "reservoir".
