About

Live Music Now is an outreach music project bringing live music to those who 'rarely, if ever, have the opportunity to experience' music. It was founded in 1977 by the violinist Yehudi Menuhin and Live Music Now's Founder Chairman, Ian Stoutzker CBE.

Yehudi Menuhin's unique approach was to combine his experience of performing music to Allied soldiers during the Second World War[1] and his interest in musician development. Professional musicians are selected and given further training then sent to perform nationwide to older people, children, the disabled and ill.

'Music, amongst all the great arts, is the language which penetrates most deeply into the human spirit, reaching people through every barrier, disability, language and circumstance. This is why it has been my dream to bring music back into the lives of those people whose lives are especially prone to stress and suffering... so that it might comfort, heal and bring delight.' - Yehudi Menuhin

In September 2014 it was announced that Julian Lloyd Webber,[2] who had recorded and performed with Yehudi Menuhin,[3] would become the spokesperson for Live Music Now.
