Origin

The commune name comes from the Massif de Lorris, the eastern portion of Foret d'Orléans, the Orléans forest.

The area also has a market, museums, miniature golf, canoeing, tennis, and a helicentre.

Geography

Lorris is located 130 km S of Paris, the southermost area of the Gâtinais, halfway from Montargis and Sully-sur-Loire and is 60 km from Orléans.

History

On 30 October 1242, the Paix de Lorris (the Peace of Lorris) was signed by Ramon VII, count de Toulouse and the Kings of France, Saint Louis. The two men renewed the Treaty of Paris which they had already concluded on 12 April 1229. The treaty put an end to the sufferings of the Albigeois.
