Ma näen su häält (Template:Lang-en) is an Estonian television mystery music game show series based on the South Korean programme of the same name. Since its premiere on 27 February 2022,[1][2] the series has aired two seasons on Kanal 2 in 2022.

Gameplay

Format

Presented with a group of seven "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a guest artist and a group of two contestants must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of four rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of a duet between them and one of the guest artists.[3][4]

Rewards

If the singer is good, the contestants win 2,022; if the singer is bad, the same amount is given to the bad singer instead.

Rounds

Each episode presents the guest artist and contestants with seven people whose identities and singing voices are kept concealed until they are eliminated to perform on the "stage of truth" or remain in the end to perform the final duet.

The guest artist and contestants are given some time to observe and examine each mystery singer based on their appearance.[a]

Each mystery singer performs a lip sync to a song. Good singers mime to a recording of their own performance, while bad singers mime to a recording by someone else.[a]

The guest artist and contestants are presented with a video package in which one of the mystery singers discusses their life and musical qualifications.[a]

The guest artist and contestants may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.[a]

Production

Background and development

Following the announcement for the development of the series through CJ ENM and Fremantle's joint agreement in November 2020,[5][6] TV3 has initially made an interest to adapt I Can See Your Voice[7] following the successful broadcasts of Maskis laulja.[8] Then on January 2022, Duo Media Networks formally acquired the rights to produce a local adaptation of that said programme.[9] It is produced by Ruut; the staff team is managed by executive producer Triin Luhats, producer Kaupo Karelson, and director Anna Stepanova.[7][10]

Filming

Filmings for the series took place at ETV Stuudio 4 in Kesklinn, Tallinn since the second season.[11][12] Past venues also produced for the first season at Stuudio 3 in Lasnamäe, Tallinn.[13][14] Since the first season, tapings have been implemented health and safety protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Broadcast

History

Ma näen su häält debuted on 27 February 2022,[1][2] two weeks prior to the third season premiere of TV3's rival show Maskis laulja.[15][16] The second season that has been already renewed after the first-season finale[17] began airing in 18 September 2022.[18]

Special episode and companion events

In the first season, a postseason episode (dubbed as Suurimad üllatused, Template:Lang-en) on 22 May 2022[19] includes behind the scenes and unaired moments, as well as interviews from the show's cast and production staff.[20]

For the second season, two companion events were added — an in-game event Ma kuulen su häält (Template:Lang-en) is conducted during the game; and then documentary lead-out aftershow Ma nägin su häält (Template:Lang-en) is aired following the main programme.[21]

Cast

The series employs a team of "celebrity panelists" who decipher mystery singers' evidences throughout the game. Alongside with full-timers and additional ones, guest panelists also appear since the first season. Throughout its broadcast, the programme has assigned 6 different panelists. The original members consist of Mart Juur, Estoni Kohver [et] of 5miinust, Grete Kuld, Evelin Võigemast, and Andrei Zevakin [et]. Beside with original cast, later additions also include Tõnis Niinemets [et] (from second season).
