Mahajan is an Indian surname.This is popular from Khandesh Region for Kshtriya Gurjar Comunitiy. It signifies the profession of a moneylender or merchant.[1]

In the caste system, Mahajan is a trader who belongs to the Kshtriya and Vaishya varna and the last name may be found in that caste.[2][3]
