Maria Viktorovna Vasilevich (Russian: Мария Викторовна Василевич; Belarusian: Марыя Віктараўна Васілевіч) is a Belarusian model and politician. Vasilevich studied at the Belarus State Economic University.[1] She won the Miss Belarus 2018 pageant and finished in the top five at the Miss World beauty pageant in December.[2][3] She became a member of the House of Representatives in 2019. Vasilevich was elected at the age of 22 and is the youngest member of the parliament.[4]

Biography

Maria Vasilevich was born on April 9, 1997 in Minsk in an ordinary family of a military man and a kindergarten teacher

After graduating from high school in 2014, she entered the Belarusian State University of Economics where she studied at the Faculty of Public Administration, Management and Economics, the graduation of which she celebrated in the summer of 2019.

She has a higher education, graduated from the Belarusian State University of Economics with a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration in 2018; also graduated from the Master's degree of the Belarusian State University of Economics with a degree in Economics.

Then Vasilevich got a job as a presenter on the program "Dobra Ranitsy, on the Belarus 1 TV channel!". However, Maria quickly realized that the format set by the script did not satisfy her ambitions.

Then Vasilevich began her career as a fashion model. The beauty and harmonious parameters of 86-60-90 opened the way for Maria to the modeling business. She began to earn extra money on the set and shows at the age of 18, but at first refused to participate in beauty contests. However, at the age of 21, Maria changed her mind and came to the national competition, where she unexpectedly took the crown. This event gave an impetus to fame and career advancement.

At first Vasilevich became the winner of the national beauty contest "Miss Belarus-2018", the final of the contest was held on May 4, 2018 in Minsk.

In December 2018, Vasilevich went to China, where, among 118 charming rivals, she proved her superiority in cuteness, intelligence and talent. The Belarusian managed to break into the top five most beautiful women on the planet, she was recognized as the best on the European continent. Represented the country at the Miss World pageant. Maria was among the winners of the contest and took 3rd place among the contestants, receiving the title of "Miss World Europe".

Political activity

In the fall of 2019, it became known that Vasilevich was going to the parliamentary elections. As a result, Maria Vasilevich was elected to Parliament. However, among all 110 districts, she received the least number of votes — 28.94%. Maria stated that she considers age to be her advantage, because she is full of determination, responsibility, creativity and courage. Speaking on the Belarus 3 channel, Vasilevich stated that she plans to ensure that the activities of the Belarusian Parliament become more open and public, this will help to achieve effective cooperation between the people and the authorities. Maria Vasilevich also advocates the improvement of the education system, systematization and updating of existing regulatory legal acts to meet modern realities. In order for the laws to be clear to every Belarusian, as they are "written for people." She insists that "it is necessary to abandon the discussion of these problems only in high offices."

In 2020, Belarus was gripped by protests. They began during the election campaigns and escalated in August, when thousands of outraged citizens took to the streets to express their dissatisfaction with the results of the presidential election. They refused to recognize the next election of Lukashenka as legitimate, which resulted in mass riots. On August 13, 2020, Vasilevich attracted the attention of the media and the blogosphere with her appeal to Instagram subscribers to stop violence on the streets of Belarusian cities during protests against the current government.
