Playing career

Hunwick attended the University of Michigan. During his senior season in 2006–07 season Hunwick served as captain of the Wolverines. He served as alternate captain in 2005–06.

Hunwick played amateur hockey with the Honeybaked Hockey Program.

On November 10, 2007 Hunwick played his first NHL regular season game with the Bruins, playing at home against the Buffalo Sabres. He scored his first career goal on November 17, 2008 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, as the second Bruins goal in a 3-2 road game win against the Toronto club.[1]

He got into his first NHL fight on January 10, 2009 against Justin Williams of the Carolina Hurricanes, knocking him down on one punch.

On April 18, 2009 at a team meeting before game two against the Montreal Canadiens, Hunwick complained of abdominal pain. Dr. Peter Asnis, the Bruins' team doctor, determined that he needed medical treatment and Hunwick was taken to the hospital via ambulance. He underwent surgery for a ruptured spleen, and was out for the rest of the playoffs recovering.[2]
