It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. The municipality has a population of Template:Infobox Finnish Municipality/population count (Error: Invalid time.)[1] and covers an area of [convert: invalid number] of which [convert: invalid number] is water.[2] There are all together 146 lakes in Multia. Biggest lakes in Multia are Sinervä, Tarhapäänjärvi and Sahrajärvi-Pienvesi.[3] The population density is [convert: invalid number].

The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Muldia" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Multia" also in Swedish.[4]
