[edit] Geography

Paliouri are surrounded by mountains inland while farmlands covers the areas as well as the valley areas. The cape named Kanastraio or Kanastreo is located to the east. It is one of the southernmost village on the Chalkidiki peninsula but not Macedonia, Central Macedonia (otherwise the southernmost is in the Grevena prefecture).

[edit] Information

The most famous that is not just its natural beauty is that tourism dominates the industry ans has a beach, hotels, spas, restaurants, taverns, etc. The most infamous was that on August 26, 2006, a forest fire ravaged Paliouri and devastated much of the forests and buildings in the outskirts of the area. Several houses and villas were burnt. Hydro was snapped out and roads were closed. All residents were to be evacuated as well as tourists who were to leave the area.

Paliouri was linked with pavement in the mid-20th century and generated a growth on tourism, hydro and phone lines soon followed as well as more paved roads in the 1980s.
