Parashar is a Brahmin gotra found in northern India. The Parashars claim ancestry from the Vedic scholar Parashara. Many people belonging to the gotra use the surname Parashar. Alternative spellings include Prashar, Parasar, Prasar, Parasara, Prasher and Parasher. Some of them also use the surnames Vashishth and Vyas.[citation needed]
