Patriarch Paul II of Constantinople

Paul II was the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople from 641 to 653. He assumed regency for Byzantine emperor Constans II after a succession crisis in 641.

Known For [edit]

Paul II is most well known for being the first Eastern Patriarch to speak out against the use of Filioque in the Nicene Creed. For this accusation, he was excommunicated by the Pope at Rome of the time.
