Silent Majority is a fictional character in the DC Universe. He first appeared in Batman and the Outsiders Annual #1 (1984), as a member of the government-sponsored superhero team the Force of July.

Fictional character biography

Silent Majority's name and background were never revealed, least of all by the taciturn hero. As a member of the government-sponsored superhero team the Force of July, Majority fights against elements perceived as "subversive". This brings them, at first, in conflict with the original Outsiders, though the teams later become unwilling allies.

Silent Majority appears in the Outsiders Special (1987). Investigating a mysterious new Prime Minister in the country of Markovia, a small group of Outsiders and Infinity Inc. members follow a lead to Force of July's HQ, the California coast estate of Abraham Lincoln Carlyle. Majority defeats Nuklon in battle while his teammates subdue the other heroes. The story continues in the corresponding Infinity Inc. special.[1]

Deaths

Majority and the Force of July return in Suicide Squad #27 (May 1989), in the Janus Directive storyline. Kobra, an international terrorist, manipulates the Squad, resulting in a battle to bring in the Force as traitors. Mayflower and Sparkler are killed. Silent Majority later joins up with the very people who killed his friends in order to save a large portion of the Earth's population from being murdered by Kobra's space-based weapon. Majority rushes the control panel for the weapon, manned by Valland. Majority multiplies himself, but Valland kills all of him.[2]

A revamped Force of July, now called "Freedom's Ring", returns in the series Crisis Aftermath: The Battle for Blüdhaven by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Dan Jurgens, with Silent Majority among the group. It is never made clear if this is the same Silent Majority or a new person with the same powers. Silent Majority is killed by the Nuclear Legion before anything could be revealed.[3]

Powers and abilities

Silent Majority can create identical duplicates of himself, which can be controlled by the original Majority. Each duplicate has the strength and stamina of an ordinary human.
