Taiwan[edit]

Dear Editor, I would like to know how did the Taiwan operators solved the problem of 4 digit Airport designators, since first one shows the region, second one the state and two last ones the airport itself. Taiwan is not known as a state in UN and therefore can not be also the part of ICAO which is an organisation inside the UN.

I checked my Free Flight Atlas, and the second digit does not necessarily identify the state. For large states, such as China, multiple letters are used. China uses ZBAA (for Beiijng Capital, PEK) through ZYYJ (for Yanji, YNJ). All airports in Taiwan start with RC. (RCAY for Kangshan through RCYU for Hualien.)

"KK other ant company messages Low" What's the "ant company" bit there? That correct or a typo? Dxco (talk) 05:09, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Other and company messages" = other ATC related messages and company messages. I corrected it. Sv1xv (talk) 05:51, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ZCZC and NNNN[edit]

I have question the following paragraph:

"...The ZCZC stands for start of message and is geared towards torn-tape stations where the Z and c characters will punch all five holes on the tapes providing a quick check to the operator that the tape-puncher is working correctly. The NNNN similar is a familiar one hole consecutive sequence which can be quickly identified as end of message by operators..."

While ZCZC does punch an alternating pattern of bits 1 and 5 for Z and 2,3 and 4 for C, I dispute that NNNN is a familiar one hole consecutive sequence. N codes to bits 3 and 4.

I was always told that ZCZC was selected as the start of message sequence as it was a letter pattern that would not be found in common text. The same was true for the end of message sequence NNNN. Does anyone have a source or better description for ZCZC and NNNN so that the questioned paragraph can be updated? Wa3frp (talk) 12:27, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing noted and as a result, I will update the article with my understanding of ZCZC and NNNN based on my experience with reperforator systems. Wa3frp (talk) 20:02, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
