Article needs clean-up[edit]

Although the idea of dedicating an article to a square is not a bad one, it should be done in a professional and NPOV manner. EurowikiJ 13:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove information about the legend. It is relevant, though it shows Croatian chauvinism wich you probably dont like. But it has to be mentioned. Kovaljevskijkotoroman 18:03, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The "information" you keep inserting into this needs to be referenced. Unless you provide a valid source, I will have to remove it. Legends have no place in here, no matter how much you like them. I also inform you not to transgress the three revert rule. EurowikiJ 18:07, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. Also, I've removed the paragraph. It is both unsourced and implausible, but what really riles me about this supposed "urban legend" is its boneheadedness: it says that "the monument always faces the enemies of Croatia". What does "always" mean? The monument faced north for nearly one hundred years, and is facing south for the last twenty years. That's it. GregorB (talk) 08:22, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The urban legend has no real substance. If it was supposed to be facing the Serbs, it would be facing east, not south, because it's well known that for the Croats, the customary "direction" of Serbia is eastwards.

You also misrepresented the nationalist aspect of it - Jelačić has nothing to do with the Ustaše because he was long dead at the time of WWII. Of course, blatant misunderstanding of Croatian patriotism is a reasonable explanation of that, but still not something worth discussing in an encyclopedia article.
