Isn't it supposed to be "this remark of hers"?

Louis deMartelly[edit]

The Basina quote is different from the one that appears in Gregory, I know that you are a strong man, and I recognize ability when I see it. I have therefore come to live with you. You can be sure that if I knew anyone else, even far across the sea, I should have sought him out and gone to live with him instead. Gibbon states it differently yet, "if she had known a man more stronger or more beautiful than Childeric, that man should have been the object of her preference." Gregory is sighted as the source. Differences may be due to translation from Gregory's rough Latin.

More important is the circumstance of her decision. Childeric was their guest for eight years as a result of his womanizing. It seems probable that they had an affair. Pregnancy would have been a good reason for her departure. Clovis was born soon after, and named by her. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.153.33.20 (talk) 01:23, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
