On February 11th, Inglis himself died.

What year? quercus robur 22:17, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

1993, the same year as Grundy. Nietzsche 2 (talk) 15:16, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the line about Inglis. If anyone can find the obituary he wrote, feel free to put it back in. (The one linked to as a reference is not by him, and while searching online is finding me lots of people saying he wrote one — though they disagree as to what paper it was in — the obituary itself is not among the results.) g026r (talk) 05:35, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Style of questioning[edit]

I was on the Today show in about 1975. So this was Bill Grundy? I was there because I had a "penny for the guy", Guy Fawkes Guy manikin type thing. In the last 20 seconds of the Today show, Bill asked me, I think, "What are you going to spend the money on" or perhaps "Are you going to spend the money on fireworks?" (as is traditional) and I replied "No" to which Bill said "Why?" and I said "Um, because they are dangerous" (the truth was that I wanted to spend the money on toys and shik but) then Bill asked me, "How do you know that?" I was really stumped. How do you know that fireworks are dangerous? Isn't it obvious? If it were me now at 40, I would say, "Hey, Bill, that is a stupid question, everyone knows that fireworks are dangerous" but I was only 10 or so, so I said, I think, "er..because my mother told me!" Ouch. I didnt want to say that. But big Bill put me in that position. He was full of himself but also a sort or rebel. A working class lad. An Australian! or something. And I guess that is why he did not want to back down to the sex pistols. He was the rebel. But he met his match.

He definetly wasn't Australian, he was from Manchester. The f**king rotter.

More to his life than the Sex Pistols incident?[edit]

The article should really have more of a biog. Almost all of it is about the Sex Pistols incident. Ben Finn 22:42, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, to be honest, aside from the Sex Pistols incident, what else is there to say about Grundy? He was only some third rate pissed news presenter. SM UK 11:26, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I consider that to be an unnecessarily harsh comment. What the current article doesn't mention are the tons of school programs he did, which broadcasters were required to produce and were shown during the working day. Grundy was actually an exceptionally good presenter with a solid, understated delivery. The sex pistols incident was blown way out of proportion, and ITV was probably looking for a way to cancel the eamonn andrews vehicle anyway, which was not a ratings winner and most times I'd watch it had Arianna Huffington on it. I would also add that Grundy was seen to be a newspaper journalist as much as a TV figure, none of that is presented. Indieshack (talk) 15:53, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

YouTube links[edit]

This article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. If you are not sure if the link on this article should be removed or you would like to help spread this message contact us on this page. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 04:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

World War II[edit]

Does anyone know what he did during WWII? I came across a reference to him in a book on WOYG Beaumanor, it said he was in the Fleet Air Arm at Loughborough but it is not clear whether he was also in the Y Service. --jmb 00:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article says of the Sex Pistols incident that, "As a result, Grundy was suspended for two weeks and Today was axed two months later". Was the show axed as a result of the incident, or had it run its course naturally? This is the kind of thing Offthetelly.co.uk could probably answer. -Ashley Pomeroy 20:17, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"...jokingly..."[edit]

Hmm, an awful lot of what at best are weasel words in this article, distorting the truth of the incident. He wasn't joking about being drunk - he was drunk. Unfortunately for him, it turned out to be the one interview in his career for which he really needed to be sober. -88.111.128.124 (talk) 14:33, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What about some trviia such as The television personalities writing a song about the event. "Their first release (January 1978) was the single "14th Floor / Oxford Street W1". Their second release, the EP Where's Bill Grundy Now? features one of their best-known songs, "Part Time Punks"." it references thsi article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.154.86.98 (talk) 10:40, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Source video[edit]

Today was live, and the only known source for the interview is a Phillips format tape (alternately claimed by McLaren or Temple. Is there a better source?MartinSFSA (talk) 13:44, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in the transcription[edit]

One of these is the claim that Grundy said "Let's meet afterwards, then, shall we?" to Siouxsie Sioux. He did not say that. He said one of the following: "Well, wait after the show", "We'll wait after the show", "Well, wait afterwards, shall we?", "We'll wait afterwards, shall we?" The word "let's" is not said, nor is the word "then" said. The word "meet" is also not said. It is "wait". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.233.138.49 (talk) 19:28, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
