Merger proposal[edit]
I am suggesting that this page be merged with Nikonos because this camera's technical description is that of the early Nikonos, and the Nikonos is well-known whereas the Calpyso is nearly unheard of.--John Bessa (talk) 02:45, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
It is true the Japanese Nikonos family of underwater cameras is the continuation of the remarkable French Calypso, and that the first generation of Nikonos was almost identical to the Calypso. However, the proposed merger based on this, and the idea that Calypso is nearly unheard of seems unnecessary. It is hardly the way to go about organising Wikipedia entries. Short precise articles on specific subjects with links to similar entries are the strength of the Wikipedia project. This preserves clarity and enables concise learning. Both articles clearly explain the technical and historical connection and provide links where appropriate. Separate articles helps ensure that neither of these historical cameras are forgotten and do not sink into oblivion.
Keep the articles apart.

Re.: Articles containing camera operating instructions.[edit]
It has been suggested from a reviewer and an editor, se my (talk page) re. Contarex and Periflex, that also historic camera articles should not as a rule contain "How to do" text. It isn't allowed at Wikipedia (WP:HOWTO). However, exceptions from the normal practise may be made in special and unusual cases.
The Calypso is a remarkable camera, the first to be selfcontained for underwater photography. As such it is historically significant. Its mode of operation, with some special and unusual controls, is quite different from any other 35mm film camera.--Jan von Erpecom 16:05, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Re.: Calypso Vaseline for the O-rings[edit]
It is true silicone grease is the current useful grease for the O-rings, however at the time of the Calypso the Vaseline was used. Jan von Erpecom 11:01, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
