I'll get to this shortly.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 02:56, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do this in sections because of its size. This covers up until the convention.

  • I'd suggest combining the first two paragraphs of the lede.
  • silver coin was worth more than face value, Either add 's' to coin or change it to coinage.
  • Link Senator, Representative, Congressman
  • This sentence is messed up: By the Coinage Act of 1873, Congress eliminated both the standard silver dollar was eliminated and the provisions allowing silver bullion to be presented to the Mint and returned in the form of circulating money.
  • This might be rephrased Congress did so, but in the process caused divides in both major parties between silver and gold factions. But that maybe just my sense of esthetics.
  • repeal of the silver purchase act Shouldn't the last three words be capitalized as a proper noun?
  • This is awkward: President Cleveland sent federal troops to Illinois to end a strike against the Pullman Palace Car Company, who had been joined by railway workers; the strike had threatened to paralyze the nation's rail lines.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 04:42, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • OK, I'll get started on the changes.--Wehwalt (talk) 23:36, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed those except I'm not convinced on the merging of the paragraphs of the lede. A long initial paragraph is unfriendly to the reader, in my view. YMMV.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:19, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the whole "silver purchase act" thing was part of my desperate attempt to avoid the words "Sherman Act", which would lead to confusion with antitrust law.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:26, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The rest of it looks fine, except that Bensel needs place of publication.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 17:47, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's done. Thank you for the review.--Wehwalt (talk) 20:57, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Pass then, friend.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 21:28, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
