It is predominantly occupied by students at Durham University who favour the area due to its proximity to the main University Library at New Elvet and the other academic institutions that surround Palace Green. - Er... The main Uni Library is not at New Elvet, it's next to the New Inn, on the Science Site. New Elvet is the main site of lecture halls for arts degrees. The only academic institutions on Palace Green are a small branch of the library, Law, Music and (arguably) History. Besides all of which, in Durham terms, Crossgate is not particularly near Palace Green or New Elvet. I would rewrite it but at 3:15am I can't think of an elegant replacement. I don't really know why students live in the Viaduct (which, I would argue, is really the student zone, not Crossgate per se), I suspect just because the dense terraced housing translates to a high number of available rooms, and although not the cheapest (real cheapskates live in or beyond Gilesgate), cheaper than the likes of Church Street.
