not a political prisoner[edit]

Turki commanded an underground organization that spied against Israel on behalf of Syria and took steps to fight it in armed struggle, when the command comes. This is not political activity. דב ט. (talk) 22:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have sources in Hebrew, I can look for some in English. I don't think there's any doubt that he was charged and convicted for spying and commanding an armed underground chain. For all that I know, he didn't deny the charges and was proud of what he did (I understand you speak Arabic, maybe you can confirm this). So I don't think "political prisoner" is accurate. דב ט. Daud Turki spent the first five years in prison fighting for recognition as political prisoner. He organized and participated in hunger strikes for this recognition. Israel recognized him as a security prisoner, not as a criminal. The goal of his group was the overthrow of Israel and not spying. It was an ideological political group. I can assure you that any defacing of this page by racist propagandists will upset hundreds of Israeli activists and scholars in Haifa and Tel-Aviv. What consequences?

To the point: the sentence "Israel recognized him as a security prisoner, not as a criminal" is meaningless. He violated Israeli law, by making contact with Syrian agents and send his people to practice with firearms in Syria. He wasn't arrested for mere political activity (i.e. calling for a change of regime in Israel) but for underground activity aimed to destroy Israel with violent means, with the aid of its enemy Syria. דב ט.
