Criticisms[edit]

The Ecoschools programme is not addressing the most important environmental issue; energy and energy conservation. This is because teachers do not have sufficient knowledge in this area to educate their students, and the ecoschools programme does not support teachers in order to attain the required knowledge. So, the ecoschools programme is primarily centred on issues such as waste and recycling; important issues, but, ones that may be being addressed without ecoschools involvement anyway (because they are relatively easy issues to teach and address). If a programme, such as ecoschools is to maximise the undoubtedly positive potential it does have, then it must address the gap in knowledge of teachers, so that students receive a comprehensive environmental education.

One more point; did you know that a school that attains a green flag does not necassarily have to meet the targets outlined by the ecoschools programme, only that they have to show a commitment to meet the targets!! This is plainly not good enough; it weakens the potential impact that a programme such as ecoschools could have.

I'm not saying that ecoschools is not worthwhile, only that it needs adjustment!!!!!

I removed the above from the article as it reads more like a blog than an encyclopedia. Also it needs to be referenced as to who is critisising the project. I have no problem with dissent but it needs to be formatted correctly. Sophia Gilraen of Dorthonion 12:33, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
