No Sources[edit]

The only reference listed (http://www.aihs.org) does not currently have any information about Mr. Renehan. See WP:V and WP:CITE to avoid deletion. The article also needs more categories. — Eoghanacht ^talk 14:06, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mysterious Disappearance[edit]

This article previously discussed biographer Edward J. Renehan Jr., then mysteriously disappeared and was replaced by an article about a minor politician, Edward J. Renehan. I did some digging and found that the Edward J. Renehan Jr. info was stashed under a new article, "Edward Renahan." It seems that the information about the writer Renehan was hidden after the article was updated with information about his criminal prosecutions, which were widely covered in the press. I've restored the article about the writer, made sure to include what he had to say in his defense, and put the information about the politician in a separate article, so it hasn't been lost. If the article about the writer is to be deleted, it should be a topic of open discussion. Once again, the story of Renehan's theft and criminal conviction was deleted. For those who care about document theft, this is alarming. Mr. Renehan's prosecution was well documented, and is an important story. The account in the Wikipedia entry is fair, giving Renehan's own story of his bipolar disorder.Chronomonitor (talk) 17:35, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still More Mysterious Disappearances[edit]

Starting on April 12, this entry was rewritten top to bottom. Much of the new information surely is unobjectionable and so is the link to the subject's own discussion of his bipolar disorder. What's troubling is the deletion of much of the information about the criminal prosecutions, along with all links to sources that are not from the subject himself. The theft under discussion was a disturbing case for librarians and archivists. It's well documented and should not be minimized.

The only purpose in removing this information is to spare the subject embarrassment, but Wikipedia is not a vanity project. If there's a source that shows that the article as it stands is unfair or if there's new material to be added, okay, but the deletions remove documentation and information, rather than adding or correcting. --Chronomonitor (talk) 05:34, 18 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced[edit]

Renehan has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including that of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and that of the Southern Rhode Island Conservation District, which he co-chaired for five years. He has also served as a delegate to the Rhode Island State Conservation Committee (five years) and is an active member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation as well as a Charter Member of the Long Now Foundation.

Recent edits[edit]

I have more or less completely rewritten this article, which was very problematic per BLP as unbalanced towards one controversial aspect of this man's life. It appears that there are supporters and detractors of this man who are using WP to promote their view of various aspects of this man, and this needs to stop.

I have just reverted some edits made by a new editor.[2] There are several reasons. Edits need to be verifiable from reliable sources, and several times the information cited was not to be found in the citation given. A posting on a community forum is not an reliable source, and would count as original research. Neither do we wish to have extensive quotes or information from the subject's own website. The edits suggest that Mark Traum, the new editor, may be somebody close to the subject, and if that it is the case then it is probably worth reading WP:COI and WP:BIOSELF.
