Talk:Eponine
27 October 2005
[edit]I have some issues with this article as a whole. Ideally, it needs to be broadened to include a discussion of the book's Eponine, and have the article be based on that, rather than on the musical's version. The book came first, and offers the original portrayal. It can provide much more room for discussion and understanding of the character.
Regardless of this, even taken as it is and limited only to the musical, there is still much here that doesn't justify an article, and can be moved to the musical's article. The song descriptions in particular are the sort of specifics that would be better located there. The story summary section can also undergo a little pruning at the very least; it's either that or incorporating it into a larger detailed summary of the entire plot in the musical's article.
Only the introductory paragraph, in my opinion, is really necessary to this article in its current form. It, and the story summary section with some cuts, should ideally be placed under a "Eponine in the musical" sub-heading, in an article setting out of a discussion of the book's character first. --Krickles 22:47, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- I made slight edits to the introductory chapter to make it less POV and to make it clear that the book is the original versio of Les Miserables. Prior to my edit, the book was mentioned just as an afterthought and made it appear as the book was adapted from the musical. MacMoney 10:26, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Book
[edit]I added in a description of what Eponine does in the book. The page was really lacking with only the musical version. While the musical is good, the book really shows the true character of Eponine, one of my personal favorite characters. I hope the edit was somewhat good, and because of the "no personal research" rule I used an online summary to help jog my memory. Hope you all enjoy. --buddyhollee, January 23, 2006

Suggested Redirect
[edit]The entries for all the other Les Miserables characters (including Jean Valjean and Javert, the unarguable main characters) redirect to the main novel's article. Eponine may be the most popular character when it comes to the musical, but in the scheme of the story she is a minor character, so I don't think she warrants a specific article. This article is very long, and the important information could be summarized into the respective novel/musical articles. Anyone object to me redirecting? I know people have done hard work in making the article more focused on the original novel, but I think it's rather redundant as more important characters don't have their own articles. - I strongly object to redirecting. The proper thing to do here is to write articles on Valjean and Javert, not to redirect this rather detailed article to a much less detailed article on the novel as a whole. I would add that we have articles on lots of individual Dickens characters - Wilkins Micawber, Uriah Heep, The Artful Dodger, Fagin, Bill Sikes, Sydney Carton, Lucie Manette, etc. There's no reason the same shouldn't be done for Les Misérables. john k 23:07, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Still, a small-time supporting character should not have more of a page than the main character, no matter WHAT the fangirls say. I'm personally working on condensing it. A LOT. A lot of this information (espicially in the book part) isn't about Eponine, it's more about her family or Marius. Prydeful 06:20, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
