who won the champions league as player as well as coach. I am sure about Munez, Ancelotti and Cruyff! Are there more?

Thx Peter

someone can explaine me that phrase:

"The 1965 competition is memorable more for the infamous and controversial semi-final between Internazionale and Liverpool, with widespread allegations of bribery and match fixing being levelled at the Italian side following a 3-0 home win in Milan"

we need something more than rumors comin' out in the 60's from some trash tabloids of Liverpool....

i've changed that voice.

Why is the entire last section "Barcelona Dominance"[edit]

They won 3 out of the last 7, I wouldn't name the section after Barcelona. Also, dominance is far too overused as a a word in this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.107.161.127 (talk) 15:30, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a novel or article?[edit]

The sub headings in this article are frankly ridiculous; they were obviously written by an over enthusiastic fan who is unsure of Wikipedia's standards. For this reason I have replaced many of the sub-headings with more formal alternatives. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.137.111.67 (talk) 19:36, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

British bias[edit]

This article is a bit marred by too much attention put on British facts, especially non-relevant ones (for example, I removed descriptions of ALL mediocre results of English teams after their return in 1991). Also, NPOV phrases like "a young exciting team" area clearly to be put off.

"The consequence was a 5-year ban from European competition for English clubs, with a 6-year ban on Liverpool. The long term consequences for English club football due to the actions of Liverpool fans at Heysel were arguably severe in terms of top level success, with English clubs initially struggling to make a significant impact in European competition upon their return from the ban." - A six year ban was 'arguably severe'?? 6 years for 39 deaths is severe? That's 8 weeks per life. Obviously some Scouse scum who wrote this (probably on a nicked computer). I vote we change the wording. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.213.240.1 (talk) 16:49, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was a severe ban on the other clubs who were banned from European competitions for 5 years, as they did not kill those fans. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.107.161.127 (talk) 15:28, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

European Cup?[edit]

"European Cup" should be "European Champion Clubs' Cup"

--RasMyn 06:56, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The whole article is very subjective and non-enclyopedic 86.140.17.231 (talk) 22:30, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Madjer.jpg[edit]

Image:Madjer.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with File:Bobpaisley1.jpg[edit]

The image File:Bobpaisley1.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --05:05, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The competition was really renamed in 1992 ????[edit]

The poster of 1994 Final still refered it as European Champion Clubs Cup. As well as 1993 poster of final. It also didn't refer it as Champions League, despite the poster being written in German. --82.139.5.13 (talk) 21:56, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the rebranding definitely occurred in 1992. According to UEFA, 1992/93 saw Olympique de Marseille win the first edition of the UEFA Champions League. – PeeJay 23:47, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But, you should see this, there are featured tickets for 1993 and 1994 finals and the name "UEFA Champions League" isn't featured. --82.139.5.13 (talk) 16:32, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the guys who created the UEFA website and all these things wrote on it, made a mistake and written 1992/93 instead of 1994/95 final --82.139.5.13 (talk) 16:44, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we know the finals weren't properly rebranded until 1995, but the competition itself was definitely referred to as the "UEFA Champions League" from 1992/93. – PeeJay 20:46, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why would someone erase the passage about the game between English and Scottish champions in 1895?![edit]

This is the passage:

The first time when champions of two European leages met was in what was nicknamed the 1895 World Championship, when English champions Sunderland beat Scottish champions Heart of Midlothian 5-3. Ironically, the Sunderland lineup in the 1895 World Championship consisted entirely of Scottish players - Scottish players who moved to England to play professionally in those days were known nicknamed the Scotch Professors.[1]Sunderland AFC Were World Champions![2] Prior to that, other "football World Championship" took place, however, those were between Scottish and English cup winners, as the respective leagues were yet established.[3]

I mean, the one who removed it wrote, "That doesn’t look like a precursor" - Really? The first time two European champions meeting "doesn't look like a precursor"? Again, just to emphasise it, this game was the first time two European champions met! It doesn't get more "precursor" than that. Maxim.il89 (talk) 10:32, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

1974 to 1976 – Bayern Munich hat-trick[edit]

The article contains a reference to 5 Bayern players winning internationally - including the 1976 Olympic tournament "as Germany" - however it was East Germany that won the 1976 tournament and i am not sure there were any Bayern players in that squad? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.98.140.248 (talk) 11:59, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
