It is stated that he will attempt to "ride to the Most Northern point of America" Is this in reference to the USA or the North American continent?

This is this first time that I ever heard that he had a son with Eve. Not only that it says that he was born in 1986 so Ewan would have been 15 when he was born. Where did this information come from?

nationality

Ok, when do we distinguish between British and Scottish? If someone is born in (Scotland, UK), are the y not Scottish, then who's to argue they are not British? I have a little more to say on the whole topic of that that, but it's not pertinent. However, we have to distinguish the two. There is no such thing - at least in legal terms - as being "British". The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a unitary state comprised of 4 different "countries". British is shorthand for being a citizen of United Kingdom. As someone born in Scotland (although I now live in California) I happily pronounce myself "Scottish" first and a citizen of the United Kingdom second. I'll still call myself "Scottish" but a citizen of United States when my application goes through.

What kind of moron is the above writer? The above could not be further from the truth. Perhaps he should inspect his "British Passport" where he will find no mention of being "Scottish". In fact, his passport will state that he is a "British" citizen, so to say that there is no such thing as being legally "British" is rubbish. Perhaps his being in America is beginning to have ill effects on him as the common American idiotisms begin to bare weight in his mind. Next he'll be trying to tell us about the "Queen of England".

Well, to begin with a nitpicking point, it is not "comprised of" 4 different countries, it "comprises" 4 different countries; a thing is not "comprised of" its parts, it "comprises" them. This is a very interesting debate that I believe is worthy of its own article, I'd consider my self English over British, for example on the 2000(?) cencus I neglected to tick the British box on the nationality section and filled in the misc. box with English

• In cases of description, it's usually a question of nationality rather than citizenship. Also, Ewan is pretty clearly proud to be Scottish, and I'd suggest that's how he should be described here. To answer the points above, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country comprised of 4 nations. The terms nation and country are usually (often incorrectly) used interchangeably. Nation describes a not-necessarily sovereign area containing (or that once contained) a broadly homogenous set of people with a shared culture. I don't agree that British is not a legally recognized definition, being British refers to citizenship of the UK. Neither Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland nor England are independent countries. They are constituent countries of the United Kingdom. If you live in either of those four areas your nationality is first and foremost 'British'. Also I think it is noteworthy that although he is proud to be Scottish, Ewan is also a unionist, he is happy for Scotland to be in the United Kingdom and is fiercely proud of the UK, as evident in his recent series 'Long Way Down', showing off emblems of the Union flag, and shaking hands with Charley at the border of England/Scotland; proclaiming 'The Union!'. Kids

Ok. What's with the whole "son" thing. I've never heard of Ewan having a son. Can someone explain this? Plus, it says the kid was born in the 80's, which, as the person mentioned above, would've made him 15 at the time. And Eve would not have been the mother. I'm just wondering where that little factiod came from.

I agree, I'm a huge fan and have never heard of this now-20-year old son. This alleged "fact" doesn't appear anywhere else. Also, it would certainly not be Eve's son with Ewan as they didn't meet till years later.

Are all the details about Ewan and Eve's meeting and Clara's birth correct? If not, either she was born very prematurely or Ewan is not her biological father. Salopian (talk) 16:24, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

It says they met on the set of the show and married in July 1995, while the daughter was born in February 1996. Since the episode of Kavannagh QC that he was in aired on 3 January 1995, the time frame is fine. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok I've removed the Amazon links for the following reassons:

- Why have them here? If people really want to buy the 'Long way round' then they'll know where to go, or they can simply check the official website.

- I changed this once but (as with all Amazon links) people just can't stop themselves from adding a refferer tag to the link to make those extra few cents.

Brother

Ewan's brother is a top fighter pilot for the UK Royal Air Force (RAF), and was, for a period of time, one of their 'demonstration pilots' (ala the US Navy's Blue Angels or the US Air Force's Thunderbirds). It never says he regretted Star Wars. When you click the reference, all the article says is that a little girl he was talking to quoted him as saying-

"He said the favourite movie he'd done was Trainspotting and the one he liked least was Star Wars."

Agreed. I've never seen or read him say he regretted doing Star Wars. What he has said he didn't like doing was the over-emphasis on CGI. He loves the Star Wars films and talks about them all the time in his 'Long Way Round' and 'Long Way Down' documentaries. Matt7895 20:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
