Before year 2001?[edit]

Was there a military base (with a different name), at the same location, before 2001? --S(l)ick pluribus unum (talk) 05:38, 3 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why 2001? Typo for 2010 perhaps? In any case the location of the base was a farming compound before 2008. I've provided an external link to a newspaper article describing its purchase. It was named Armadillo in connection with a badge (or suchlike, the linked reference provided is unclear in translation) used by the Danish guards who constructed it and its name was changed to its Afgan placename as part of the policy of handing over to the Afghanis responsibility for their security. 81.178.38.169 (talk) 19:29, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On reflection of course you enquire 2001 because that was the commencement of the current war. Apologies. 81.178.38.169 (talk) 23:45, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent link! The base is named in honor of a Danish commander who died while on duty during a patrol. Link: http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diskussion:Armadillo_(lejr) .

Regarding the badge: The commander had procured badges depicting an armadillo, for his unit in the 1990's. (The units armoured vehicles were not the most modern in the Danish force, back then. And he thought the vehicles resembled armadillos. And his idea caught on with the unit. And the unit's soldiers referred to themselves as "We are the armadillos.")--Gag-order for Norw.speakers (talk) 06:35, 23 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
