[edit]During my senior year in high school, Denfeld High, of Duluth, MN, in May of 1953, my civics class made a field trip to numerous historical places in Illinois. One stopover we made was in Chicago for several days. During that stay, we went to the Chicago City Hall and were usushered into a lecture room where we heard a talk about race relations from the Commissioner of Human Relations for the City of Chicago. He spoke of the race riots in Chicago the previous year. The speaker was Frederick Pollard Jr. and during his presentation he spoke of several of his teammates on the North Dakota University football team who were from our home town of Duluth. Both also were graduates of our high school; Al Sowl and Lou Chumich.
I was completely unfamiliar with this Pollard fellow or his father but when we arrived back in our city, I came across Lou Chumich, who was also a neighbor, and advised him of Pollard and his talk to us. He then told me of Pollards feats on the football field as well as his accomplishments at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. He also brought me up to date on Fritz Pollard Sr.'s records.
I am caucasian, but it amazes me that very little is known, even among persons of African-American heritage, about these two great American athletes.

[edit]Thank you Eli for your nice words. My Grandfather and Great-Grandfather were amazing men who accomplished a lot with whatever they had. It's amazing how so many people don't know the history and struggles many athletes went through. I hope my family's story becomes more well known as well as the many others who played along side them.

I also have a few images I would like posted on his Wiki page, but I have no idea on how to do so. If someone could help me or do it that would be wonderful. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Meredithkaye (talk • contribs) 03:52, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
