Colum's Street[edit]

The caption on the photo says, "'Free Derry Corner' at the end of Columbs Street in the Bogside." The article says that it "lies in the intersection of the Lecky Road, Rossville Street and Fahan Street." I'm not familiar with the geography of Derry; it may well be that in 1969 there was a "Colum's Street" there which is now gone. But as it stands the two are contradictory. Well, no. St. Colum's Wells is still there, and it is at a few yards distance from Free Derry Corner. You can see it on Google maps. Now, either the portion of Fahan Street running from Colum's Wells to Rossville St./Lecky Road was once called "Colum's Street" or there never was such a place. But it needs to be sorted, because just throwing "Colum's Wells" in to the mix has made the article more confusing instead of less so. Scolaire (talk) 23:11, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it a square?[edit]

"Free Derry Corner is a square in the Bogside neighbourhood of Derry". Looking at it on Bing Maps, it could be described as an oval, a green, or even a traffic island, but I can't see anything about it that suggests square. It was a square in the 1960s, all right, but that was then and this is now. Scolaire (talk) 20:45, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Celebration sentence[edit]

Hi. I've just removed a sentence from the article which has had a cn tag for over two years - specifically: After victory in the Battle of Bogside, the residents celebrated at Free Derry Corner. Given that the Battle of the Bogside article is way better sourced and makes no reference to a "result" as a "victory" for any "side" in the battle or any celebration, my immediate reaction is that, given the cn tag and its longevity, that the article is better with the sentence removed. But I'm very much aware of the nature of articles surrounding the Troubles - is there is any reason why it shouldn't have been removed given the cn tag? Obviously if anyone has citations which would support it then it should be replaced and cited. Otherwise - any thoughts? Ta. Blue Square Thing (talk) 21:17, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just for interest, here is a 2016 news item on the celebration. It was called a "liberation fleadh" (music festival), which certainly implies victory for the residents. Having said that, I don't think it's all that important or worthy of inclusion. Plus, it doesn't seem to have been confined to Free Derry Corner. Scolaire (talk) 14:55, 23 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
