January 31, 2010[edit]

I have reverted changes made to the article by 82.232.65.249 on January 22, 2010. The changes that were made by 82.232.65.249 on 1/22/2010 removed mention of China Construction Bank from the article. As far as I can tell, China Construction Bank is still part of the Global ATM Alliance, at least it is for Bank of America customers. April 15, 2009[edit]

It is not clear from this program if the fees charges for use are universal. It seems that each nation (outside the home country) has its own rules and a call to Bank of America did not clear it up. They will only guarantee the alliance works in the home country of the bank. So, for example, if you use a DB ATM in Poland it may or may not come with a fee. Perhaps people could up date based on experience under the avoiding fees section?

Bank of America International ATM Access Fee: Is it $5 or has it increased to $10?[edit]

On 5 August 2009, Jaldenh made an edit stating that since June 2009 the fee Bank of America charges its account holders for accessing an ATM outside the Global ATM Alliance in a foreign country has increased to $10. But, I've just checked, and all the literature that I have found don't indicate that this increased has happened. Jaldenh, if you are out there and reading this, please reply here with some references to document the fee increase. Until then, I can only assume that Jaldenh's edit was made in error. Thus, I have reverted the changes that Jaldenh made. Additionally, I have added more references which also indicate that the fee is currently $5.

Alright. I just did a little bit more research and I think I might have found out why Jaldenh made the erroneous edit to state that the fee increased to $10. I think Jaldenh might have based his/her edit on information in a post I found here (http://www.fodors.com/community/travel-tips-trip-ideas/bank-of-america-to-charge-10-atm-on-foreign-wd-and-8-foreign-trans-fee.cfm) which points to an article here (http://www.tripso.com/today/increase-bank-fees/). I found this article using a quick Google search. Disclaimer, I don't know how accurate the article at tripso.com is. But, even if I assume that the article is accurate, it is clear after a careful reading that the fees mentioned in that article are for "credit cards," not for "ATM/debit/check cards." That is, the fees mentioned in that article are for making a "cash advance" on a Bank of America credit card at an ATM, which would, of course, incur finance charges and fees. The post at fodors.com can be misleading because it is unclear what kind of card the poster is talking about, and the article at tripso.com can be misunderstood if not read carefully. I hope this clears everything up.

Conclusion: It is still $5.

I've just made changes to the wording in the Bank of America section to make it clear to readers that we are talking about ATM cards and debit cards (aka check cards). Hopefully there will be no more confusion. I.e., hopefully, no one will inadvertantly mistake the information to be about credit cards.

BofA rules for using other banks' ATMs[edit]

Yes, I'd love to hear from you when you get back. I added most of the information currently in the Bank of America section and I'd really like to know about your experience in Tanzania. All of the BofA information I put into the Wikipedia article I obtained directly from the online literature put out by Bank of America. The information is easily verifiable and I cited the sources. However, like you, I also get the feeling that there are gray areas that aren't covered by the information that Bank of America has put out. Additionally, it appears that it's not the same for all the banks in the Alliance. Westpac ATM card holders, for example, are covered under the Global ATM Alliance at Deutsche Bank ATMs in Italy, but Bank of America ATM card holders are not. Italy is the one country that Bank of America specifically mentions in its online literature where Deutsche Bank ATMs are explicitly not covered. (I noticed the difference because I was also the one who created the Westpac section, which I did using information I obtained from online literature put out by Westpac.) I just got back from Tanzania again. I am a Bank of America customer. Not only was I not charged a fee for using a Barclays ATM there, I was not charged the 1% fee mentioned on the BofA website. IMPORTANT NOTE: I just got back from Portugal (2010-08) and was charged both a $5 fee per transaction and 1% on the transaction amount. I called Bank of America and was informed that only the originating country of the partner bank has no transaction fees imposed (the UK for Barclay's, Germany for Deutsche Bank, etc.). The current information on this Wikipedia entry seems wrong. There is only one country listed per bank on the Bank of America ATM locator. Usethe4s (talk) 23:49, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
