Spelling note

Behavioral Ecology Student - WikiProject review

Hi, below are some areas and points in the article that I believe need expansion. These are all open the debate, but I feel that they would strengthen the article.

• Split the Behavior section into sub-sections like Defense mechanisms and mating rituals.
• Add more information and clarification to the above sections to justify separation
• Add migration/movement tendencies under behavior section.

Behavioral Ecology Student - WikiProject

Hello! I added the following sections and subsections to the article to add more information to the Hipparachia semele, and wrote the majority of the information for each section. I added the Lead section, Geographic Range, Habitat, Food Resources, Parental Care (Oviposition), most of Life History, Migration, Protective Coloration and Behavior, Mating (Mate Searching Behavior, Male-Male Behaviors including Lekking and Displaying, Female-Male Interactions including Pheromones, Mate Choice, and Courting), Physiology (Flight and Thermoregulation), Conservation (Habitat Loss). I also added 8 new references. I also deleted the Description section and moved that information under the Life Cycle Section. I renamed the Distribution section with Geographic Range and added more information under it. I also deleted the generic Behavior and Biology sections and instead replaced it with more specific subsections. Thanks! Pranita.kaginele (talk) 05:14, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your contribution! I really like that you split up the behavior section into specific subsections; it's definitely easier to navigate. I edited your conservation information slightly to clarify that it's a priority species in the UK. The wording before suggested that this species is considered globally important for conservation efforts, but according to the IUCN Red List, it's considered "least threatened." I checked your sources and it looks like the populations are declining in the UK specifically, so I just adjusted wording to make that more clear. Also, if it's now a "priority" butterfly, there could more information about what people are doing to conserve this butterfly.

Behavioral Ecology Student- WikiProkect

Hi- I am peer reviewing this page for Behavioral Ecology. I think it is really well done and neutral, with very comprehensive categories and information. I made minor edits in sentence structure to make some of the paragraphs less repetitive (I noticed some paragraphs where every sentence started with 'The grayling', so I wanted to help make those sections flow a little better). I also have one question- in the oviposition category, you mention that egg laying on host plant is not crucial to adult survival. In the next section - life history I believe- you mention 'eggs are laid singly on food plants'. Hey, great article! Lots of good information here and it is well categorized. I did some more wording edits to increase clarity and reduce repetitiveness, but other than that it seems like everything looks good. I would like to see more detail regarding specialist versus generalist feeding preference, as multiple plants are mentioned as food but no relationship is discussed, nor is butterfly preference of these plants discussed (if there is any).
