No Stairway

I think that just saying the "No Stairway" comment is a reference to WW is selling the comment itself short... after all, it was, after awhile, illegal to play the opening to StH in the majority of music shops in London... maybe it's worthwhile to mention that at least? I mean, the first question that comes to mind after seeing "it's a reference to Wayne's World" is, why was it in Wayne's World? I agree, the 'No stairway' joke from Waynes World was itself a reference to Stairway being banned from a large amount of music shops, so it could be a reference to the reference or to the actual event. This is the problem with trivia. Page Streamlining (10.25.06)

I'm sure that some of the page regulars will quickly notice that it appears that a significant amount of content has been removed from the page, though that is false. I have gone through the page and implemented the unstated information that once sat awkwardly and disjointed from the brunt of the article (so basically, the "Recent News" section ha) and deleted the content that had become obvious with the completion of the song list or didn't necessarily warrant statement because of it. (Notably, the larger omitted bands - Iron Maiden, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, U2, etc...) I hope that this is read and considered before anyone makes any hasty reverts due to percieved "vandalism", I made great efforts not to delete anything without first readjusting it in the article for greater readability.

There are still a few things that I don't necessarily feel deserve warranting in their own category, yet didn't want to completely remove without gathering a consensus.

  • I don't believe that "Awards" needs to stand on its own as it does with a mere E3 award occupying the lone space. Could this be implemented into the article (possibly with the pretext?), or should it be deleted?
    • I personally think that the Awards section will expand drastically following the release of the game; perhaps this section can be expanded to "Awards / critical reception" following release, I think we should just leave it for now as this will be nominated for and win plenty of awards. 12.217.119.186 02:19, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Having future games on both this and Guitar Hero I seems a bit redundant to me, though I could see how one might want this one to remain. I do however believe that the toolbox Template for Guitar Hero (which now documents a completely worthless Guitar Hero III page) covers the future of this series adequately enough with the amount of information that we now know about installments beyond GHII.
  • See also? Really? I'm thinking about deleting that one right now. Especially since the "2006 computer and video games" category this article is under covers that quite well...
  • I remembered another issue - The picture of the Mini X-Plorer. Due to the manner in which I added the information regarding the Xbox 360 announcement in the article, the image now seems out of place, and I'm unsure where it should be positioned. I put it in a place where it can be out of the way yet still notable, though if anyone has any better ideas, please implement them.

Bonus Track Speculation

Do you guys think there will be any major label songs in the bonus tracks? In the first Guitar Hero there was only unsigned or little known bands, correct? This doesnt really seem like a spoiler to me, why would it be when some of the songs are going to be on the back of the box anyways? i think ur trying to argue something pretty illogical... reviews, just about everything will have the song-list all over it. If people really dont want to know the songs, they would literally have to close their eyes and purchase the game, and quickly unwrap it and live in a cave until they beat the game or see all the songs themselves by the game. John The Fisherman and YYZ

(Interestingly, the original John The Fisherman song features a version of the intro of YYZ.)

Although it was removed recently, the rationale behind the removal is incorrect. The first actual version of John The Fisherman released to the public via Suck on This dates to a 1989 release date, whereas the Frizzle Fry version was presumably recorded with the rest of the album in December of the same year; a month after Suck on This was released. The Suck on This version has the aforementioned YYZ opening. I hate to be anal about this, but this is an encyclopedia ha. I'm not sure if this is something that people would want back in the article though, as it seems a bit of a non sequitor. I suppose that doesn't really matter though...

July 2006 EGM rumor

The latest (July 2006) issue of EGM has a rumor concerning the GH dev team adding the Mega Man theme into Guitar Hero as well as other anthemic video game tunes. Is this something that should be denoted in the article at this point?

There is no such thing as a "Mega Man theme," as in a theme song that's present in every Mega Man games or a theme just for Mega Man. All the games, especially the orginal Mega Man series, pretty much have their own self-contained music, apart from the early games using different arranged versions of the stage select music. Just a comment I thought I'd make. MySpace isn't working (no surprise there) so I can't see what song the Acro-Brats have posted on there. Oh well. 20:54, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Proposal for deletion

I put the prod tag on top of this article. Of course this game is in production and will come out eventually; however, at the moment I don't think there's enough information to warrant its own aritlce. Any information about it can just be inserted into the Guitar Hero article. I don't know what else to say that isn't already said above. What information can go in this article that can't already go in a sub-section of Guitar Hero? Right now it's practically a duplication of what's in the main article. About the "games we've never heard of", you might need to be a little more specific, but usually announced sequels with little information available get merged into the main series article until there's enough information for it to stand alone. --TheKoG (talk|contribs) 13:41, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Jryder, this article has no cause for deletion however, it is small. Even though E3 is not here yet, there is still alot of information to be added. There was an announcement just recently that Red Octane would hold a contest for bands to get their songs into Guitar Hero II, similar to GH and Graveyard BBQ. Would that be worth adding to the page? Also, I saw a post on a forum where a guy recieved an e-mail with this little bit of E3 info.

Guitar

Anyone know anywhere if the game will be sold by it self, with the guitar, with a new guitar, etc. I think that's incredibly important and I'm really hoping I don't have to buy another guitar just to get the new game. H2P 06:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, according to Gamestop[1] you can pre-order the "game only" version, so I think its safe to say it will be release bundled and unbundled. From what I've read unofficially, the guitar controller was expensive for Red Octane to produce, and to ship, so it makes business sense, as GH1 owners will be a big part of their customer base. ---Jackel 23:43, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Master Tracks

It says that all songs OTHER THAN John The Fisherman will be using master tracks. Isn't it the other way around? Aren't they just having John The Fisherman as a master?

Green-Orange Chords in GHII

OPM editor Joe Rybicki's October 17th 1UP.com blog entry provides proof that the Green-Orange combination is going to be in the finished product via a co-op video of The Foo Fighters' "Monkey Wrench" (played on Expert mode, of course). Quite honestly, I hadn't really noticed that they were in the first game and I've played that one extensively. Ah well. As such, I've taken the line out of the article.Charles M. Re: Preorders getting the game on Oct 31. I'm not sure how it would be cited, but when I preordered the game at GameStop, I was told that I could come in to pick it up on 10/31. I removed the comment because it wasn't cited and because acting like "My shop said" and "but MY shop said" would be beyond unverifiable information. Until it can be cited to a reputable source, perhaps we can have it on the Rumors section, but putting it in the Confirmed information section leads people to actually believe it is indeed true. "Slash" = Izzy Sparks

Thanks to the new preview trailer at Best Buy's website for Guitar Hero II[2], we can all rest easy knowing that indeed, the Slash lookalike seen in the Sweet Child O' Mine video is none other than Izzy Sparks with a new look. Izzy is seen without his hat in the characters preview of the trailer, but a look at his icon on the select a character screen shows Izzy wearing the aforementioned Slash-like hat. Unsourced rumors

I removed the following rumour:

Due to the comments in the latest issue of EGM regarding the final song having 11 solos, speculation has grown that the song is "Hangar 18" by Megadeth.[citation needed]

Because without a source, it could solely be what the author believes the song to be and no-one else. I could put one up saying the song is rumored to be 'Sign of the Cross' by Iron Maiden, but without any sources it wouldn't mean anything. The Aerosmith rumor has been removed from this uncited list since it is obviously not a rumor any longer. In addition, I have added Survival and Handicapped versus mode descriptions to this list, as the only source I can find for them is the Official Guitar Hero Game Forums, which does not, in itself, cite its source. Song Citations

Is that a particular reason that each song has been individually cited, to the point of redunancy in some cases, rather than offering one convenient link (like say, this one) that offers a list of them?

On the subject of included songs, it would seem that Every Time I Die's "The New Black" shouldn't be on the confirmed list. Despite being stated by the band's frontman earlier this summer, RedOctane has yet to insinuate that the song has even been considered for inclusion. Digging even deeper (thanks to a comment over at Joystiq), I discovered a Kotaku story about this very topic in which an "insider at Harmonix" basically nixes the idea completely. Found here

I'll put this here since it relates to the song list. Can whoever keeps removing the 'Original version' tag next to John The Fisherman please stop doing it? The comment is there to highlight the fact that this song is not an in-studio cover of the track. I'm adding YYZ by Rush from unconfirmed to confirmed. In the Guitar Hero page, the songs are cited "Song - Band", but here they are "Band - Song". All of them here should be changed to match what is already done with Guitar Hero, as the name of the song is what people use to identify the songs in the game anyways.

Uncited Confirmed Information

There seems to be a lot of 'confirmed' information that is uncited. Specifically, the game modes, as well as stuff like the three button chords. Can anyone get the sources for them? Artists Not in the Game

Does anyone think we should list the artists who have been confirmed not being in Guitar Hero 2? There are two charts in the EGM issue mentioned in this article listing several artists not in the game. Part of this is already in the article, but should we give the rest its own section? Valdiir

I think that would be a bad idea. We have enough trouble with people adding random artists to the confirmed list. With this, people are just gonna add any old crap and be technicly right. It's an invitation to spamdalise. The Kinslayer 08:41, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

Tool? (External links)

According to MTV, Tool have also been in negotiations with RedOctane to be in Guitar Hero II. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1531583/20060511/tool.jhtml This link does not quote anything of the sort, nor is it anywhere in MTV's news archive. Google's cache only has this phrase pointing to the link (from wikipedia), archive.org has no cache of the news post either. "Now that the long wait's over for Tool fans thirsting for new material, it begs a very obvious question: Will Tool force those same loyal fans to wait another five years before there's another new LP? Assuming Good Faith

I've removed the CVU templates Kinslayer added. While he is a member of the CVU, so it's technically correct, I don't think it's a good idea to make the implication that people adding not-very-confirmed songs to the confirmed songs list is 'vandalism'. (See Wikipedia:Vandalism#What_vandalism_is_not) It seems to be just an honest mistake, so let's not make people angry about this.

I've added a comment to the confirmed songs list, so hopefully that will make things better. It would also be helpful to have a clearer criteria for what a 'confirmed' song is, to clear up some potential confusion.--Fangz 13:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I'd just like to explain that the CVU tags were added because the same people over the last week have been adding songs to the list despite comments being left that the songs need to be citable as officially confirmed by harmonix or Red Octane. I had assumed good faith for the most part of the week, but how many times should the same person add the same removed and uncited song before it's classed as vandalism? And I guarantee the Fangz comment will be ignored by the same people who have been ignoring all the other comments and re-adding the same songs constantly for the last week. An honest mistake would have been left alone the first, second or third (at most) time the song was removed, but by adding it repeatedly, you are doing nothing more than being a nuisance. Audio/Video Information

I am wondering if we can add a Audio/Video section or whether we should add it to the Confirmed Information section, or perhaps Recent News... http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2341

according to Johm Tam himself, GHII (PS2) will support Progressive Scan, Dolby Pro-Logic II and Widescreen... this is significant because

A) This means that there will no longer be a delay when using 480p (or higher resolutions) on a HDTV (DLPs especially).. B) Instead of just simply having a Stereo option, Dolby Prologic II allows us to use a surround sound speaker set-up effectively. C) Widescreen means that you wont be limited to a square screen or having to stretch the video for use with a Widescreen TV...

King Kendall?

King Kendall is the nickname for one of the artists at Harmonix. He did the guitar modelling in the first game, voiced the tutorial and sang the title track as a member of Monkey Steals the Peach. He was also the lead singer of the punk-influenced rockabilly band The Amazing Royal Crowns which would likely make him the basis for the rockabilly character in the game prior to settling on a name for the final build.Choice77 02:24, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Characters

Does anyone think we should add a characters section? Since the original eight have been confirmed, and there are minamally 3 new guitarists that we know of, should they get their own section, instead of a brief mention in the first part? Valdiir

Australian Release Date For GHII-

The official Australian Release date is the 19th of November 2006. I read it in the OPS2 mag and also did some hunting. Can't wait for Freebird! Oooo, I'm getting arthritic just thinking aboout it!

Removal of Rumors/Unconfirmed

Quite honestly, removing that section in its entirety would help alievate the process of transforming this article from one concerning a future occurance and an occurance that has already passed. Considering each of the remaining rumors have either been proven true or, at the least, proven to have to basis or merit, I can't legitimately think of why it should remain in the article. Removing tidbits of the "recent news" sections

I recently (As in today) removed a few items in the recent news sections that related to the final build of the game. I.E, GameSpot confirming "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "Free Bird", Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Quiet Riot, and U2 not being in the game, and a few others. But it was reverted, and I'd like to question as to why it was. The final build is out, therefore some of the "recent news" no longer needs to be there, and is just taking up space. And the majority of it isn't that "Recent" at all. Should it be removed again? Moterola 22:56 25 October 2006

In short, yes. Again, this is an effort to bridge the gap between the article in its current incarnation (documenting an unfolding event) and the article that it should become. It should be expected that more of these will be removed in the final two weeks and eventually the section itself will obviously be removed.

New information about Guitar Hero Controllers

Apperently they're retailing wireless controller at the price of 59.99. I have the U.S. Playstation Magazine Demo disc in my hands.

The four demo songs are playable in "quickplay" in all difficulty levels. Despite what the article says, co-op mode is NOT available on my demo disc.

songs are: 

 "Shout at the Devil" - Motley crue
 "You Really Got Me" - Van Halen
 "Strutter" - KISS
 "YYZ" - Rush

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't believe I've ever broken an A string (considering how thick they are, that seems easier said than done), but then again, I only tend to have problems with the G string ha. Rhythm/Bass

Whoever put up that list of the Bass or Rhythm as the co-op next to the songs, needs to properly cite it somehow, and i'm not entirely sure the way it is implemented in the page makes sense. I'm not too sure about how accurate this list is based off the simple fact that Mother is listed as a rhthym guitar co-op, but Danzig does not have a rhythm guitarist.Weedwacker 16:16, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

San we double check that, it's just that I picked up my copy of the game yesterday and i'm in Spain, which would normally count as europe, which the article claims won't be out until next week. I think we should check to see if we can find out if other countries had it on the same day. I fmost of them did, then I think it should be changed, but if it was just (for example) Spain, and the rest of the countries had it released next week, then it should stay.
