Authorship of "Jole Blonde"?[edit]
The article currently states:
Its sound has come to be one of the genre's most imitated, and its 1936 song "Jolie Blon" — the group's most covered song — ranks as the informal "Cajun national anthem."
I seriously doubt that the Ramblers authored "Jolie Blonde," as the wording currently implies; in fact, Amede Breaux recorded "Jolie Blonde" under the title "Ma blonde est partie" in 1928, 8 years before the Ramblers' version appeared. And I doubt even Breaux was the author, it being a folk song of unknown origin.
Does anyone mind therefore if the wording were changed to remove the implication of authorship? (Did the original contributor of the article mean rather that the Ramblers' arrangement of the song was often copied -- which is different than saying that the Ramblers wrote the lyrics or melody?) --Skb8721 (talk) 02:11, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Though I don't have a source, as I doubt anyone could accurately source a folk song, The Hackberry Ramblers are most definitely not the original authors of Jolie Blonde. This assertion in the article needs to be changed. Since the author of the original has not commented to clarify what was meant by the sentence, and since this Talk subject is 8 years old, I'm simply going to remove the sentence for now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joshisanonymous (talk • contribs) 16:10, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
