First jazz group to play at White House[edit]

Multiple sources claim that the Paul Winter Sextet, with Harold Jones on drums, was the first jazz group to play at the White House in 1962. I found sources showing that two jazz bands played at the White House in the 1920s. It might be argued that Hickman's band wasn't playing jazz, though I've heard it and would think most jazz fans would consider it to be playing jazz. The better case is made for the Ray Miller Jazz band, whose members included Frank Trumbauer and Milf Mole, players with unchallengeable jazz credentials. Perhaps it was a little unclear the way the sentence was worded before(I've updated it), but the article was saying he was part of the first band to play since the 20s. One of the source listed, mentions the Miller band [1] and the performance in the 20s. It also mentions that they played on the lawn of building. The jazztimes source [2], says it was reported that Winter's quartet was reportedly the first to play inside the building. But that is trivial, and the article indicated that they were the first band since the 20s. I'm not sure about the other source you listed if there is anywhere to read it out there? I agree the inside/outside difference is trivial. Unfortunately Wikipedia has blacklisted the domain where a copy of the New York Morning Telegraph article is transcribed. It's a broad discussion site, so it probably contains a lot of crap. The transcription was posted by respected jazz historian Ralph Wondraschek, so there is no reason to doubt its factualness. American drummer, American pop music and jazz[edit]

I can't see any value added by mentioning that he was an American drummer who successfully played American music. It's true that people from other countries have skillfully played American music, but even if some were drummers that would not change the original point of the sentence. Jones is one of the most of the things mentioned from any country. So I removed "American" as making a needless point. Nicmart (talk) 08:09, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
