Worth mentioning?

Some screenshots were released today on Reddit, at http://www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/311qfz/due_to_universal_praise_for_chirpy_we_have/cpxs2t6. Granted its part of an April Fools' joke but I believe these are the first to be released? Therefore, would it be worth mentioning them at all? --83.100.233.169 (talk) 16:27, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

In the DLC board it says that Man The Guns DLC will be released in 2019. However there is no any official referrence anywhere about that. It can be released Fall of 2018 since its out for pre-order already for 2 months now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.106.18.219 (talk) 15:37, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

What determines placement on the list of modifications?

Which aspect of a mod entitles it to a place upon the list of modifications? Is it based on raw subscriber numbers, or does it also have to do with the current status of development and so forth, or is it another factor entirely? Siegerkranzen (talk) 21:30, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

My personal view is that only mods that have gotten attention from outside souces, and not just a passing mention should be included. Basically, notable mods. So something that the only source is the development site shouldn't be here. Downloads or subscribers are incredibly suspect numbers that shouldn't be used. Ravensfire (talk) 23:38, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
if you use that logic Kaiserreich should not be included. Witch Khan (talk) 09:41, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Apology

I'm the owner of Hecking Gorgeous Overhaul. I just want to apologise for my staff/fans continuously vandalising the page and adding my mod with false information attached. I don't condone their actions. ~Skylar (talk) 20:18, 29 October 2018 (UTC)

Recent edits

What is going on with the edits to this page? As of Oct 31 it was rich in detail but has now been essentially reduced to a stub.

The content was removed because it was not cited to reliable independent sources, in all cases. It's possible that some of the content can reasonably be found in the currently-in-article reliable independent sources, or others out and about, and could be readded with an explicit citation to that source instead of being implicit. The article was attracting cruft because of it. --Izno (talk) 02:39, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
But why was the DLC table removed? That's very easily sourced. --TirnTern (talk) 11:47, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
It was sourced to just the DLC content - nothing to show it was notable at all. Having a secondary source that discusses in depth (not just mentions) is much more helpful. Please though, discuss here first. Ravensfire (talk) 14:06, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
It is easily sourced, and was. What it was not was sourced to reliable, independent sources, meaning it did not have the appropriate WP:WEIGHT for the content that was in the page. One way to look to see if there are sources talking about the mod or game of interest is the WP:VGSE. --Izno (talk) 15:07, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
For example, GameRevolution has a listicle about the topic which could be used to source mostly the existence of the modifications. It doesn't lend a lot of weight because it's just one article, and it's a listicle to boot. Contrast this with this article at Kotaku about racist modding in the game. That should be included as well. --Izno (talk) 15:12, 2 November 2018 (UTC)

Wasn’t Hitler already in the game

“Some mods have also attracted controversy for racist and fascist overtones, such as Deus Vult, a mod that adds the Knights Templar (which includes anachronistic figures such as Jesus Christ and Adolf Hitler) to the game and allows them to commit various atrocities”. It mentioning Hitler isn’t correct as Hitler is already in the base game. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haertyo (talkcontribs) 16:07, 5 May 2020 (UTC)

Hitler or fascism is indeed is in the game (although he is censored in German edition due to local laws) but things like genicode or other warcrimes are not mentioned. Fascism is already in the game, I am guessing OP meant to say that those mods created controversy by adding racism or ability to commit warcrimes on top of it 85.229.3.200 (talk) 15:32, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
Should we remove the section about the knights templar? Who even knows about that mod? 74.103.214.36 (talk) 01:31, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
it has pretty good source so it should stay. Shadow4dark (talk) 02:33, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
Ok I get it that it has a reliable source but when was the last time you saw this mod being played? 76.119.85.254 (talk) 12:55, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
How old is the mod anyway? 76.119.85.254 (talk) 12:57, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

List of Mods

The reason I deleted Millenium Dawn is because it no longer exists, as it was absorbed into the Modern Day Mod. The reason I added Equestria at War is because it's one of the most extensive mods for the game, with unique focuses for every nation. MrSwedishMeatballs (talk) 01:35, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

MrSwedishMeatballs, see several of the previous discussions above about which mods to include. Generally, it needs to have decent coverage in reliable, independent sources. Ravensfire (talk) 15:15, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
Do we want all these small mentition mods? Shadow4dark (talk) 12:40, 15 July 2020 (UTC)
How many more mods? Shadow4dark (talk) 06:02, 4 August 2020 (UTC)

Remove mod list?

Okay, the mod list is seriously one of the most frustrating sections of this article. For months, people have been trying to add a bunch of mods to the list, often with poor or no sourcing. It's been a frequent source of conflict and debate, and honestly, I'm not sure it's worth keeping. I think it's time to consider simply getting rid of the list altogether. The HoI4 modding scene is so vibrant that lots of mods have attracted outside media attention, and it may become increasingly difficult to narrow down a list of "worthy" mods without having a bloated and overly-long list. Silver181 (talk) 20:43, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Well, that suppousedly 'poor sourcing' that you said I had is in fact the only one I could find, why? Because its often overlooked, just like I said, if it wasnt there will be more sources, but there arent any. About the removing the mod list I'm honestly fine with that, although maybe get some other people too. ComradeJP (talk) 06:33, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
Okay, I think it's time to bring this issue up again, because the mod list continues to be a source of conflict. That's three people, including me, who have expressed some support for removing it. Could anyone else add their input? Silver181 (talk) 14:55, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
Agree, we should delete of all them per WP:NOTPROMOTION Shadow4dark (talk) 16:35, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
Maybe we can keep mods with multiple sources? 2 different sources from different websites and controversy mods should stay there? Shadow4dark (talk) 15:03, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
  • The Great War Redux
  • The Road to 56
  • Millennium Dawn: Modern Day Mod
  • Maybe Red World to
Has no second sources and should be deleted Shadow4dark (talk) 15:16, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
I support this solution. Coverage in generic "Best HOI4 mods" lists shouldn't warrant inclusion in the article. Both Old World Blues and Kaiserreich are covered in multiple independent sources. The New Order is covered extensively by Wargamer, which I think is a reliable enough source to keep. Game Is (presumably) Wikipedian (tea?) 12:25, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
@Silver181: Only Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg and Old World Blues are notable with multiple source. Old World Blues, has good coverage on 1 source, all others not you should take a second look and if you fail to find good sources you should delete them and refer to talk page. Shadow4dark (talk) 09:41, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
Red World should count. Witch Khan (talk) 09:44, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
No reliable sources for them. Shadow4dark (talk) 10:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

If no further comments i go clean up many mods. Shadow4dark (talk) 02:30, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

No, these mods should remain, they were all well sourced and are definitely notable enough for a sentence-long mention. Devonian Wombat (talk) 23:15, 8 October 2020 (UTC)
No it was a contest list source. Shadow4dark (talk) 03:13, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Is this Quillette article a valid source?

This article is a source that talks about the mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe mod. Normally, Quillette is an unreliable source, according to Wikipedia:Reliable_sources, but this doesn't seem as opinionated as the rest of the site, so maybe it can be valid in this instance? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kappaclystica (talkcontribs) 20:45, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

If he is verified writer/user it can. Shadow4dark (talk) 02:40, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
No, it is not. It should be removed.
CheeseInTea (talk) 00:55, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Does "Kaiserreich: Legacy of the Weltkrieg" deserve it's own article?

Personally, I think it does, considering it has grown into something greater than just a mod. With the upcoming release of Divided States, and numerous other Kaiserreich-related media, does it need it's own seperate page? Frogface08 (talk) 21:17, 23 January 2021 (UTC)

Can you give at least 6 sources but not from ks Shadow4dark (talk) 21:23, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
That's unlikely. Meeting notability requires multiple quality sources that focus on the subject - so overviews of mods for HOI4 don't count, interviews don't count and niche sites don't count. Very, very, very few mods ever push to their own article. Think Dota for an example of that. Ravensfire (talk) 04:29, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
lets be honest here, you have never played Kaiserreich. Witch Khan (talk) 09:44, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Kaiserreich is not the biggest mod.

Well, as a man who plays HOI4, I just wanted to say that there's an expansion of Kaiserreich, Kaiserredux, which expands the game to the point that every nation has content and Thousand Week Reich is also a very vast mod. I think TNO (Thousand Week Reich) deserves a place in the "Mods" section, it is a very popular and enjoyable mod.

To everyone who sees this, I hope you have a good day. 185.21.151.87 (talk) 18:12, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

We need sources about that mod Shadow4dark (talk) 19:36, 16 September 2022 (UTC)
How could I upload them? 185.21.151.87 (talk) 13:40, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

New Mods

I have a list of good mods that will fit in to the small section of mods.

  • Red Flood - What if WW1 never ended? Complex mod, Germany becomes Communist, France turns into an accelerationist regime (eventually turns into E'tat Irreál), Russia becomes a dictatorship, and many other things.
  • Thousand Week Reich - Similar to "The New Order" but with less complexity and less lore. Was popular for a while
  • Road to 56 - A mod set around expanding the game to the year of 1956.

ElusiveTaker (talk) 15:08, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

To include in the list, the mod itself needs to have more than a passing mention in a reliable source. Please take a look at some of the prior discussions about mods - it may help in understanding the reasons and how to identify good sources. Ravensfire (talk) 22:19, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
I have already read it, I will be trying to find sources soon. ElusiveTaker (talk) 15:53, 22 September 2022 (UTC)
@Ravensfire In the Russian version cold war iron curtain mod is mentioned. Perhaos we could send it over to this version? Particularbeach (talk) 09:55, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
The simplified chinese version also mentions other mods like millenium dawn. However seeing as the sources are just steam workshop pages those don't count. Particularbeach (talk) 11:21, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
Again, the need is for more than a passing mention in a reliable source. Not a steam page, a blog, some minor website, but a quality reliable source. Ravensfire (talk) 13:42, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
