Copyright violations, MOS issues, and likely COI editing[edit]

@Bmckinnon74: Some of your edits have been blatant violations of copyright and others violations of our Manual of Style (but some are good, helpful edits!). Based on those edits and your username, you are likely a COI editor. But you are not communicating in any way e.g., no edit summaries, no response to Talk page messages. I am asking you to please (a) revert or undo the edits that are obvious violations of our Manual of Style (i.e., unnecessary capital letters in section titles) and (b) begin communicating with other editors. I wasn't aware of the social norms for editing Wikipedia. I am an employee of Heritage Christian University but not paid directly to edit the Wikipedia article. I was simply updating some old information and wanting to add some neutral information about the university. I would like to add a history section that I actually wrote myself (but appears in university publications) that keeps getting taken down because of a violation of copyright. So please advise on how to add an accurate and researched history of the institution. I believe I have adjusted the style to fit the expectations. Thank you. Thanks for responding and making some edits to the article!
First, please note that it's not just a social norm to avoid conflicts of interest; editing with undeclared financial conflicts of interest is completely disallowed. It's generally a bad idea to make anything but the simplest and obviously non-controversial edits to your employer's article; it's best to avoid the issue altogether and confine yourself to making suggestions and requests here in Talk.
Second, it's likely that the material that you wrote for your university is owned by the university. If you do own the copyright or if you can convince your employer to make the material available under a compatible copyright so we can use the text in Wikipedia, this page provides some guidance on how to help us understand that the material is available for us to (ethically and legally) use. If you can't arrange for the material to be made available under a free license, it may be best to simply write a new history section using that (and other) material as a reference.

I now understand it’s disallowed. I was unaware of it when I acted in good faith to update the wiki with neutral information about the institution. Yes, the university does own the information, but we are a small community, and I’m absolutely permitted by the institution to share what I’ve written on sites like Wikipedia. I’m not going to rewrite what I’ve already composed. It’s not worth trying to get more complete information to the site. I won’t be editing the HCU wiki any further. Thank you for educating me.
