Homs Gap[edit]

In most English language scholarly sources that I've seen it is spelled Homs Gap. See, for example, Federal Research Division, Library of Congress (2005) "Country Profile: Syria" page 5; and "New Data on the Epipalaeolithic and Neolithic of the Homs Gap: Three Campaigns of Archaeological Survey (2004-2006)" Neolithics: The Newsletter of Southwest Asian Neolithic Research 1(7): pp. 3-9, Abstract. Is there any objection to moving this article? --Bejnar (talk) 23:01, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article title was based off of the city of Hims itself; this may want to be more widely discussed there. SpencerT♦C 01:17, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the proposal was move per request as the common name used in English.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:26, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hims GapHoms Gap — Although the city of Homs which gave this gap its name, may now generally be known as Hims, the Arabic expresses no vowel preference and the normal English usage for the gap is "Homs Gap". For example there are about 35 hits for "Homs Gap" in Google Scholar and none for "Hims Gap". --Bejnar (talk) 16:26, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support - all the references refer to it as Homs Gap. Seems clear enough to me. Muraho (talk) 17:00, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per WP:UE and wonder why the city is not at its English name too. It was moved to its current location without (much) discussion[1]. — AjaxSmack 00:47, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - The English name has always been Homs, only recently I started seeing Hims used in some places. I also checked several Syrian ministries' websites in addition to the Syrian Statistics Bureau and they all use Homs. The city's article was indeed mved without much discussion, and maybe we should have a similar request, or at least a proper discussion on that article. -- Orionisttalk 11:55, 19 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
