Please work on this article!!![edit]

This article is in dire need of editing.--Lawrlafo (talk) 12:59, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've added a Bibliography section and stocked it with a few items to get started on remedying the "This article does not cite any references or sources" problem. Hopefully these first items can serve as templates for others to add more. The statement "Williams has written about art" is cryptic. The Spanish version from which this is translated has an "L. Williams", but my research has not yet found such an author on Spanish art. (Only a John Williams, on manuscript illumination.) Can anyone help with this? Kotabatubara (talk) 13:44, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed my view about the source citations. The Bibliography, if continued as I've started it, listing full publication data here, would become bulky. An alternative -- in the case of those books that have been scanned for Google Books -- would be to limit their documentation to a link with their web addresses at Google Books. The curious reader could follow the link to get full publication data directly from the image of the book. Then we would list only the unscanned books in the Bibliography of this article. Are there any objections to doing it in this way? Kotabatubara (talk) 01:52, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The "Williams" mystery is solved. Kotabatubara (talk) 23:01, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone please unscramble the section entitled "In the Philippines"? What is it trying to say? Kotabatubara (talk) 19:13, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do not merge with Hispanic[edit]

Hispanism is not a synonym of Hispanic. Hispanism is an academic field focusing on literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. It is not an ethnic category.--Lawrlafo (talk) 13:23, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I just read the Hispanic article and realize there are links with this article, but I would still defend keeping the two, and focusing on the academic aspect in this one. But I now understand the recommendation to merge the two!--Lawrlafo (talk) 14:08, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think anyone who understands both topics would agree that they are indeed very different topics. I think it would be healthy to remove, from the top of the article, the note about merging them (so as not to encourage a reemergence of the idea). Would Wiki policy frown on such a deletion? Kotabatubara (talk) 18:55, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree the two articles must be kept. Based on the consensus so far, I am removing the merge proposal tamplate. My name is Mercy11 (talk) 01:42, 29 July 2012 (UTC), and I approve this message.[reply]

Update on editing[edit]

I have been fixing the sections titled Origins, Hispanism in the United States and Canada, Hispanism in Israel, and Hispanism in the Arab world but this article still needs extensive corrections. I have been consulting the Spanish version to figure out what the article should say. Feel free to continue to correct.--Lawrlafo (talk) 05:27, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I noticed that the Spanish version has many illustrations. I do not know how to incorporate them into the English version. It would be great if someone could do that.--Lawrlafo (talk) 05:33, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hispanic Hispanists?[edit]

This article is already "too" long, but... Has anyone thought about including material on Hispanism in Spain and Spanish America? What is the appropriate place for a similar treatment of people like Andrés Bello, Américo Castro, Rafael Lapesa, Ramón Menéndez Pidal, Antonio de Nebrija...? Kotabatubara (talk) 15:26, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal[edit]

Support the May merge proposal. Just as Medievalist redirects to Medieval studies, so too can Hispanist and Hispanism be discussed on the same page. The topics are not identical but the hispanism page provides better context when discussing histpanists. The pages are also sufficiently short that the combined length will not be problematic.
