HJ, his family and friends have many unpublished memoirs and are being brought to the public concerning the early years of the twentieth century Los Angeles and Southern California history. In the near future a exciting book will be published and titled "The Father of Hollywood" authored by his great granddaughter, Gaelyn Whitley Keith.

Also found some dissenting information at http://www.sfgenealogy.com/tag/5-who/391.htm which has a citation from a "Whos who" of the time...

""Born in Toronto, Canada, Oct. 7, 1860; son of Joseph and Eleanor (Johnstone) Whitley. Married to Margaret Virginia Ross in 1887.""
