Regarding the "Copied Directly" message[edit]

I'm going to contact IEEE to see if we can have permission to post the page as it is, copying the names of the recipients and the text explaining why they received the award.

I'm guessing they will give permission.

If not, we could just give the intro and link to their page.

The advantage of listing is I did in the first draft is that we can link to scientists who are listed at Wikipedia.

Permission Granted[edit]

Dave & Sterling, as long as you properly reference the source, no permission is needed. (There are millions of references to IEEE sources each year, so, IEEE would be buried in requests for permissions if permissions were required.)
Plagiarism has been a major problem for publishers, so, IEEE, for example, checks all submissions for "similarity" to previously published information. The similarity reports are checked by humans to determine if the similarity is due to plagiarism. The Wikipedia seems to have automated the process, hence the warning message. There is clearly no plagiarism here.
In addition, Wineland too is a Nobel Prize winner, no? ;-)
Moreover, the name of the IEEE is just the 4 letters, per IEEE policy. The full name is to be used only when it is legally required. [...]

Copyright problem removed[edit]

Prior content in this article duplicated one or more previously published sources. The material was copied from: http://www.ieee-uffc.org/frequency-control/awards-rabi.asp. Copied or closely paraphrased material has been rewritten or removed and must not be restored, unless it is duly released under a compatible license. (For more information, please see "using copyrighted works from others" if you are not the copyright holder of this material, or "donating copyrighted materials" if you are.)

For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or published material; such additions will be deleted. Contributors may use copyrighted publications as a source of information, and, if allowed under fair use, may copy sentences and phrases, provided they are included in quotation marks and referenced properly. The material may also be rewritten, providing it does not infringe on the copyright of the original or plagiarize from that source. Therefore, such paraphrased portions must provide their source. Please see our guideline on non-free text for how to properly implement limited quotations of copyrighted text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with these policies. Thank you. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:46, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Note: the permission given above is not sufficient as it stands; it would need to be sent to, and logged by, the OTRS system. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:46, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
