Nasa Hack
[edit]is there a reliable source for the three week shutdown? Also the costs of (only?) $41.000 are just cited from elreg, with no further source?
ISS source code
[edit]This article mentions the ISS source code, and that James got convicted for "stealing" it, but it is unclear why this source code was secret in the first place, or why its being obtained by James was dangerous or otherwise undesirable. In other words, why was it a big deal. It would be nice if someone could expand on that. — Timwi 17:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I second this, can't understand that. --91.213.100.10 (talk) 17:11, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
I could find nothing at Google News to support the claim of a suicide, so per WP:BLP that claim must be removed from the article unless and until reliable sources can be added to satisfy the need for verifiability. Edison (talk) 03:30, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
re: ok. I will wait until it is reported in the paper which will hopefully be tomorrow. i know it will not be anywhere online currently because it happened tonight and if you don't know my brother who found his body, you aren't going to know about the death. I'll make sure to cite it as soon as its up then.Thevitogodfather (talk) 03:37, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good plan. Articles about persons in the news often get updated within minutes of the news article appearing. If you see a news item about is, and you let me know I can do the necessary formatting so it shows up properly in the reference section, unless you want to try it. It's just that Wikipedia is not a medium for initial news reports. Thanks Edison (talk) 03:42, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Concerning this topic, it has been verified with sources close to the family that the formal obituary will be published in the Miami Herald Wednesday, May 21st. We can then properly reference it once it has been published. His death has been recorded with Miami-Dade county as having taken place on Sunday, May 18th 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmoore2333 (talk • contribs) 06:39, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
how did he die?
[edit]I believe it was a self inflicted gunshot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.166.185.235 (talk) 13:19, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
And why isn't it mentioned in the article? 89.139.34.240 (talk) 19:09, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- If you've got a source that gives more information on his death, that's great, and we should cite it. Right now all we have is the obit, which doesn't go into much detail. There were some people editing the article who said it was a suicide, but I've read no published sources that confirm this. Ford MF (talk) 20:06, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
NOT DEAD - this is the second "hacker" who I've seen try to hide by posting their deaths on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.103.48.20 (talk) 15:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- he is dead, my brother found his body, don't go around saying thoose kind of lies. and for the record it was a self inflicted gunshot, but you won't that on record.Thevitogodfather (talk) 02:29, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
- No he is not dead, he's being hidden by some 3-letter agency, working for the United States military. We all know it, but can't prove it. Your brother found his body?...or a body? I bet you're in on it. --128.190.125.2 (talk) 16:53, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- If you have a source that contradicts his obituary, we would of course be very interested to see it. Otherwise, it's just weird conspiracy-theorizing. Ford MF (talk) 17:26, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- There won't be a public record stating that he died from a self inflicted gunshot unless it is somehow found in a police record or coroner report, however unlikely that is. On the Sunday he died, he was not picking up his phone, which was unusual for him. So my brother and Jon's girlfriend went to his house to make sure he was OK. They were looking for him and my brother found his body in the bathroom. My brother and Jon were best friends, they lived together for about a year. I was also good friends with Jon and stayed at his house many times for parties. We are both good friends with Jon younger brother who is considered to be a non biological sibling to my family. I don't understand why there are some people who have the urge to talk like this, when it truly bothers those who knew or were close with him. And I would like to thank the mods that have been refusing the edit of other "hackers" Jon.Thevitogodfather (talk) 18:45, 22 November 2008 (UTC)
