Kakai Kissinger Francis (born Kakai Francis Kissinger on July 21, 1975) is a Kenyan[1] human rights activist and attorney. Trained in International Trade law from University of Turin Italy (2003)[2] thereafter proceeded for further trainings in 2007, in human rights and constitutional law at the prestigious Harvard law school one of the schools of Harvard University-USA.[3] Kakai Kissinger is a leading Public Interest litigation Lawyer with a specialty in international human rights and constitutional law. He consults widely on electoral process, democracy and governance issues in Kenya and within East Africa. Born in Kitale within Trans-Nzoia district in the vast Rift Valley Province of Kenya, on 21st July 1975, His parents hail from Emuhaya constituency within Western Province of Kenya. Kakai schooled in prestigious Friends School Kamusinga-The academic giant of Western Kenya, Musingu High School of western Kenya before proceeding to The University of Nairobi[4] in 1995 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in law. In 2003, he won an academic scholarship to pursue further postgraduate studies in International trade law in Italy from the International labor organization.[5] In 2006, he was awarded the prestigious Ford Foundation Scholarship [6]to undertake studies at the Harvard University due to his engagements as a human rights activist and attorney. At the time, Kakai was the executive director of a Kenyan leading non-governmental organization, Independent Medico-Legal Unit. Harvard alumni, he holds Master’s of Laws Degree’s in human rights and trade law, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law. He is also a certified public secretary. He is the proprietor of Kakai Mugalo & Company. Advocates in Nairobi, Kenya .Mr. Kakai has shown close interests in leadership in Kenya and has a close working relationship with his native rural area and constituency where he collaborates with local civil society organizations, church groups, youth groups and community based organization in all aspects of empowerment and development. He is a current board member of two Kenyan civil society organizations, the Independent Medico Legal Unit[7] and Empower/Wezesha.[8] Kakai has recently established the Kakai Kissinger foundation, where he plans to participate in philanthropic work and concentrate more in his native Emuhaya constituency of western province.
