Is this a different Kara Fatma from the Kurdish warrior of the late 19th Century?[edit]

There seems to be possibly more than one Kara Fatma in the historical record. There is a Chicago Tribune report from 1887 of a Kurdish female fighter of the same name: see here, and other references to a Kurdish Kara Fatma in al-Jazeera and other reliable sources. The dates are earlier than this Kara Fatma, so they must be different. Jwslubbock (talk) 19:33, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looks likely from this Reddit thread that they are different people.Jwslubbock (talk) 19:35, 6 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fatma is a very common female name in all Islamic societies. Kara was a common Turkish epithet during the Ottoman times. So there might be more than one Kara Fatma. Since Kara Fatma Erden was born in 1888, you can easily see that Kara Fatma of 1887 and Kara Fatma Erden were different people. (By the way please check the history of the article to see the changes and reverts on 15 April and 10 June 2017.) Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 06:55, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nedim, they are different people and I have created a separate page for Kara Fatima Khanum. Maybe we could put a notice at the top of each page for the other article so people don't get confused between them?

I have a question :Who is Fata reş? Avestaboy (talk) 15:32, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Weşanvan See this past discussion. She is not the same person the source you added (or the source it uses) mentions. The New York Times article was published before she was born. There is apparently another Kara Fatma, who even has her own article. Aintabli (talk) 01:29, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Aintabli, I'm sorry, I noticed now. A very big confusion, after my research I don't even know who really has the real name "Fatma Seher Erden", especially since the pictures of both people are together with each source, while one of the two is addressed, I'm very confused, thanks for that this note, will pay more attention to something like this in the future. - Best regards. Weşanvan (talk) 01:34, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Weşanvan There is nothing to be confused about. There are several Kara Fatmas in history. Kara and Fatma are individually very common names. Fatma Seher Erden is this woman, who lived later and was not Kurdish. There was another Kara Fatma, who lived much before and some Western sources referred to as Kurdish. Sources you added exploit this coincidence. It is especially important to use reliable sources, because issues like this can happen a lot. Aintabli (talk) 01:40, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Aintabli, Thank you for the information, I'll take a little time to take a closer look at this, I should get used to figuring out confidential sources. Thanks for your help! - Best regards. Weşanvan (talk) 01:44, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
